After losing to Montreal on Friday night, the Washington Capitals head for Toronto and a date with the struggling Maple Leafs (CBC, NHL Network-U.S.). Toronto has dropped five in a row, the latest a 6-5 shootout loss at Carolina on Thursday in which they blew a 3-0 lead and allowed the tying goal with 2.9 seconds left in regulation.
The Canadiens will try to build on their win at Washington when they host the Detroit Red Wings (RDS), who make a rare visit to the Bell Centre. The Wings come to Montreal after a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Florida on Friday.
The Panthers took their two points in Detroit and flew to New York for a meeting with the Rangers. The Blueshirts have had three days off after a 4-2 home loss to Washington on Tuesday but generally have been tough at Madison Square Garden.
Another team that lost Friday night, the Buffalo Sabres, will try to rebound when they visit the Ottawa Senators. Buffalo lost 2-1 in overtime to Boston while the Senators had the night off after Thursday's 6-2 demolition of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins will also try to rebound when they pay their first visit of the season to Atlanta. The Thrashers are 4-0-1 in their last five, but are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to Boston on Thursday.
In the other 7 p.m. game, the Carolina Hurricanes host the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Hurricanes are 2-0-1 after a 14-game losing streak, while the Bolts are back on the East Coast after Thursday's 4-3 OT loss at Anaheim.
Four games face off at 8 p.m. ET -- three of them involving Atlantic Division teams making road trips.
The New York Islanders, coming off a disappointing 3-2 loss at Minnesota on Friday, come to St. Louis for the first time in nearly four years. The Blues have struggled at the Scottrade Center, but are coming off a 3-2 overtime win over Phoenix on Thursday.
The Coyotes are back home to face the Philadelphia Flyers, who continue a Western trip that saw them win 3-2 at Los Angeles on Wednesday and lose 6-3 at San Jose on Friday. The Flyers' division rivals, the New Jersey Devils, will try to end a two-game losing streak when they visit the Dallas Stars. Dallas won 3-1 at Detroit on Wednesday, only to lose 4-1 to Columbus at home on Thursday.
The Blue Jackets will try to build on that win when they visit Nashville, where Columbus rarely wins. The Predators have won the last 11 visits by the Blue Jackets and are 20-1-2 in their last 23 meetings at the Sommet Center.
The day's final two games get under way at 10 p.m. ET.
The Chicago Blackhawks go for a two-game sweep in Alberta when they visit the Edmonton Oilers (CBC). The Hawks started their annual "Circus Trip" on Thursday by pummeling the Flames 7-1 in Calgary. The Oilers have been off since rallying for a 6-4 home win over Colorado on Wednesday.
San Jose didn't any time to enjoy its victory over the Flyers. The Sharks will try for their second win in as many nights when they visit the Anaheim Ducks. San Jose spoiled the Ducks' season-opener in their first meeting seven weeks ago.[/quote]
