Believe it or not, the USN is a little bit too organized and precise for a navigator on an aircraft carrier to misread a map and tell a lighthouse to divert course. This isn't the 1600's anymore, we don't have sailors staring at the sun for 3 hours to tell whether or not they're north or south of the equator. USN's aircraft carriers are equipped with some pretty hightech radar and GPS.
Knew what this was as soon as they started bickering about who did the course change. Jesus, this joke is as old as my childhood, at LEAST. Funny, but yeah.

Not just GPS, if I'm not mistaken, but an INS system where you input your coordinates, say when you're at port, and then sit there while the earth rotates, and satellites line you up that way. As well as GPS. Aircraft use it, too
