The embargo will drop, and access to the game will begin for the press, on launch day. "While we fully anticipate that you might see some reviews immediately at launch — largely built around the preview sessions we facilitated during the past months or the limited content of the closed and open betas — they won’t be based on optimal conditions or reflect the finished game," Ubisoft posted on its official blog. "We sincerely hope everyone will take the time to customize their ride as they progress through all five regions, explore every corner of the map solo and with friends, dive into our competitive and cooperative mechanics, race to the end of the main campaign, choose a Faction and compete with your crew in Factions Wars, and so much more." The blog post stresses that The Crew is a social game, requiring full servers of players to fully enjoy. "...The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so it’s only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world," the post states. "And by other, we mean thousands and thousands and thousands of players — something that can’t be simulated with a handful of devs playing alongside the press." The last game to warn players against rushed reviews? Destiny. Ubisoft's press embargoes have drawn criticism — including from this publication — for extending past the launch of a still-broken game. As always, caution is advised, and this season has seen plenty of games launched with significant problems.
Keep on digging ubi.
Wait, the Crew is made by Ubisoft? Well that's a let down.
If the reviews were actually about the small beta previews from people who hadn't played the game, this would be reasonable, but this is after launch. Why would the press base their reviews on the beta preview when they can just, you know, go play the game?
I already saw the game being played in the beta and it was terrible so I don't care for the reviews anyway.
So basically they're avoiding the PR problem of holding review embargo until after the launch date, like they did with Unity... by not giving anyone copies! After all the shit since Watch_Dogs, so close together, you're dead to me, Ubisoft. Don't touch The Crew with even a pedophile's severed dick until it's been out long enough for reliable reviews. If you preordered, consider asking for a refund now. Reminder, Steam gives refunds on preorders if the game hasn't gone live yet.
Lets just go through some of the things The Crew has: DRM, check. Season pass, check. Microtransactions, check. Mm, oh no Ubisoft. Things aren't looking that good for you, even before reviewers are reviewing your game! It's a shame, driving across the US in some amazing cars would have been quite cool when done right. Sadly I think they fucked it up beyond repair.
The embargo will drop, and access to the game will begin for the press, on launch day.
One of the reasons why I am boycotting Ubisoft until they change their fucking tactics.
The beta was pretty good actually. I would buy it based on that alone. ...but i won't as i am a cheap bastard who can't afford full-priced games.

Someone give ubisoft a bigger shovel.

"Guys please don't read early reviews because our game is absolute shite, we haven't set up our bribe-plans with the big reviewers yet so wait till you see their 9/10's come out."

I want to like this game so fucking much but Ubisoft keeps making things look worse and worse. I enjoyed the beta a lot though so I still have some hope.
JCB must have a load of ubisoft shares because all they're doing is digging.
"We sincerely hope that people disregard all opinions and advice and buy the game regardless."
10/10 marketing
As much as everyone hates ubisoft, what they're saying makes sense to me. If it's a social game designed around multiplayer, that's not something they can give out in single-player form for review. It's like with MMOs, you can't give a review copy of an MMO to a reviewer to form an objective analysis, because the main draw of the game isn't there. And here it sounds like what they're asking is for reviewers to get their hands on the final game and try it before reviewing, not write reviews based on earlier tests and samples in a rush to get the article out. If it's a shitty game then it's a shitty game and asking people to actually play the game before commenting is not going to hide poor quality.
10/10 marketing
If only Sega had thought of it.
These guys are literally becoming a parody of themselves jesus christ.
I preordered this because I loved the beta, I had a shit load fun just roaming around, and the missions kept me interested. I want to get a refund but I also don't!! The other thing is I don't really trust polygon's opinions.
ubisoft has had a hell of a year

Far cry 4 in general is a surprisingly great game considering Ubi had their hands in it.
Lets just go through some of the things The Crew has: DRM, check. Season pass, check. Microtransactions, check.
don't forget it's almost guaranteed to be a buggy mess
Even though I only played part of the PC beta, it felt like a mediocre game to me. The only thing I thought was nice was the large map.
Reviews of a pre-release version wouldn't be accurate to what the game is actually like to play at launch. Reviews of the post-release version would be too late for people to make release day decisions on. This is the dilemma you face with online focused games.
Oh wow, just when I thought ubi was taking a brief weekly break from fucking themselves over.
I don't think anybody's going to be able to take Ubisoft seriously after this year.
Who is running their PR team? They're doing an absolute shit job.
