You wanna get to Orlando in 4 hours from Los Angeles? This airline will do that job with no problem. They even let you check in two bags for free! I would choose this airline to travel anywhere in the US (Mexico too!). Maybe it has First Class, maybe business and that's kinda good but with HIGH HIGH prices and bad service, this makes this airline the ones not to go to. Unless you are travelling out of country (or to Hawaii), then read above.

[t]http://i.imgur.com/sY8DuDY.jpg[/t] I run a ground station to track commercial air planes via ADS-B. Just a radio receiver connected to a raspberry pi.
Jefferson Airplane
I fix aircraft AMA. Also F-4 is best planefu.
Fuck American Airlines, Delta is where it's at.
Deltards
While there are many great (and other not so great) airliners, KLM is one of the best.
I love using Emirates and Virgin, somehow the cheaper options flying out of Western Australia that isn't a shitty budget airline.
I fix aircraft AMA. Also F-4 is best planefu.
BOEING 727? DC-10????
[t]http://www.britishairways.com/assets/images/information/about-ba/fleet-facts/boeing-787-8/photo-gallery/750x500-BA-787-airbourne-5-low-res.jpg[/t] Dreamliner is my baby because the RR Trent 1000 engines have a fair chunk of my design work flying on them :)
That must be an awesome feeling :) "Hey look, that thing flies because of stuff I designed!"
That must be an awesome feeling :) "Hey look, that thing flies because of stuff I designed!"
Passing demo aircraft for major shows (Farnborough, Paris etc) often do a little display over site at work on their way past (presumably with the express intent of annoying the local residents) and it never fails to give me goosebumps! On the other hand, sat designing parts in the office it regularly crosses my mind that if I fuck it up, there is a chance (a very small one but a chance none the less) that it could do people a lot of harm. I like to think that keeps me diligent in my work! The new -TEN variant has even more of my work on so that is super exciting! To a lesser extent, some of my work is also present on these two: [t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/11/British_Airways_Airbus_A380_(G-XLEF)_arrives_London_Heathrow_11April2015_arp.jpg[/t] [t]http://aviationblog.dallasnews.com/files/2013/12/523577787_33604557.jpg[/t] But in all honesty the 787 is my favourite :)
When I saw Op's first thread I'd totally fill it up for content but it got quickly closed down and I've been waiting for him to remake this thread ever since. Also Metallics, I'm guessing you work for RR? Or at least is a consultant working for them. Anyway, going back on topic. My absolute favourite plane has to be the 777-300ER, oh baby look at that offset APU exhaust and three-pair bogie MLG. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/6394902885_cb1a5fab31_b.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/DSC_1741.jpg[/t] I really can't wait to see what they have planned for the 777X, but for now we can at least enjoy the 787(-9) which is currently my favourite plane in terms of passenger comfort. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/ANA787-9_3-954d7.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/Boeing_787-8_N787BA_cockpit.jpg[/t] And of course, what could pretty much be the most iconic planes of all time, having dominated the skies for nearly 50 years, the 737, or in this case, my favourite -800 variant. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/234541.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/S7_Airlines_Boeing_737-8ZS_flight_deck_Beltyukov.jpg[/t] And by now you would probably have guessed my airline bias and who I would totally fly for if I ever get the chance. Anyway I'm totally not a Boeing fanboy, I too love airbus and would probably start posting about them next. BONUS CONTENT: Here's an airline food review I did as a joke, the idea itself was for laughs and gag but the review itself is semi-serious.
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/12898227_10209057275730562_2831441694879760950_o.jpg[/t] On this Issue of AFR I boarded Dragon Air Flight KA068 from Kota Kinabalu to Hong Kong. Presentation: The food's presentation was simplistic and yet effective. The black tray blends in with the blue fabric and white plastic of the cabin, soothing the eyes and not sticking out like an eyesore. White crockery and red cups complement the airline's Red and White logo theme. Clear transparent plastic cutlery gives the illusion of crystal cutlery, making it feel so expensive but yet so cheap. And all of it is arranged very neatly allowing just enough space to fit a 350ml water bottle. The quality chocolate is a bonus however the obvious lack of salad or appetizers bring down its score. Presentation : ★★★☆☆ Entrée: After a short non-existant dilemma between the option that looks like chicken or the option that looks like fish. I decided to go for the option that kind of looks like fish. The entrée was served in the generic airline foil containers, however the rigidity of the container was relatively stronger than other airlines, and its foil cover is in gold, distinctly showing its higher prestige and quality. Upon opening the quality foil cover you are immediately greeted with the sweet savoury smell of the fish, generously topped with rice noodles and presented with mushrooms and carrots , inviting you to take a bite. Entrée presentation : ★★★★☆ Taste: The rice was cooked to fluff and perfection. Its small, sticky and soft characteristics makes it a good contender even for the most premium Japanese rice. The little bits of noodles were extremely soft, as if it was overly soaked in gravy for days, allowing for easy digestion. Its well over cooked mushrooms was so well done that the mushroom was not only mushy but has also completely lost all its taste. The carrot was cut neatly like a flower but unlike a flower it was strong and rock hard showing its strength. But the most important bit, the superstar, is the white steamed object that seemingly looked like fish. My teeth sank into the white object as if it was made of jelly, its soft jiggly texture made it easy to chew and digest its object. The taste of the white object was unlike any other, it was very clear, like water, a luxurious and minimalistic taste. On the other hand the sauce was just piss. Taste: ★★☆☆☆ Dessert: Dragon Air played safe for its dessert, a generic serving of pineapple, watermelon and dragonfruit (cheeky). The fruits was well hydrated, hiding the obvious fact that it has been sitting in the refrigerator for the past few days. It was also sweet and savory, kind of what you expect to get when you buy a fruit. Dessert: ★★★☆☆ Overall the airline did very well for its general presentation, however it lost a couple stars for the lack of appetisers and metal cutlery, however these two are usually not common in regular airlines, and only true five star airlines serve them. The presentation of the food was very good, however a point is lost in the lack of variety, it was just dull on visual terms. The rice was fantastic however the rest isn't, might want to re-check that recipe. The desert was very generic and is nothing special, serving dragonfruit on dragon air was a nice touch but you're not getting any points for that. Overall: ★★★☆☆

Also Metallics, I'm guessing you work for RR? Or at least is a consultant working for them.
Yeah, I'm a controls engineer at RR :)
Yeah, I'm a controls engineer at RR :)
Coolio. So do you also deal with FADEC stuff or is that more to aircraft manufacturers and their software engineers? Anyway, earlier this year I got to jumpseat in the cockpit of an Iberia CRJ-1000. Here's the landing, apologies for the jello effect since this is taken on my phone and I used software stabilisation. Nevertheless it was the smoothest landing I've even been in. The flare was initiated around 100'. The view was pretty rad too, [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/IMG_20160123_110625.jpg[/t]
Coolio. So do you also deal with FADEC stuff or is that more to aircraft manufacturers and their software engineers?
FADEC is the engine manufacturers responsibility (there is very little else besides the sensors and actuators on the engine which are controls type equipment), along with any "Equipment Health Management" tech we want to add (so at present we have an Engine Monitoring Unit (EMU)) although there are whispers on the horizon of distributed control and monitoring, so FADECs as they exist now may soon be a thing of the past!
No love for light airplanes ? Anyone with a boner for the C337 ?
No love for light airplanes ? Anyone with a boner for the C337 ?
IMO the skymaster is the only Cessna that deserve love. Also the 208 but that's not very light anymore.
I only have 2 loves in my life when it comes down to airplanes. British Airways Concord Icon A5
If you're on the long flight from London to Sydney and you're flying with BA on 777, it's well worth the £200 upgrade to Premium Economy.
Icon A5
I will never be comfortable with the interior of that thing. Its pretty nice on the outside but I'll stick to my flat panels and six pack. I know its just a sports craft but its nice enough to be a proper airplane.

i want to get my ppl but god damn it's so expensive
i want to get my ppl but god damn it's so expensive
AFAIK the US is probably the cheapest country to get a PPL though. Also flying clubs are cheaper than schools.
AFAIK the US is probably the cheapest country to get a PPL though. Also flying clubs are cheaper than schools.
It costs around 10k GBP in the UK
From what i have seen it's around 7000€ in France.
From what i have seen it's around 7000€ in France.
€16.000 in Denmark
I usually fly whoever has the cheapest fares, which usually ends up being Southwest, Delta and United. I love the stroopenwaffel things they have on United.
