Disney has announced that “Zootopia” will cross the $800 million mark in worldwide box office grosses on Tuesday.
The animated comedy reached $276.7 million domestically and $523 million internationally as of Monday.
Disney noted that “Zootopia” is the second highest grossing Walt Disney Animation Studios release of all time in its original release after “Frozen,” and the third-biggest overall after “Frozen” and “The Lion King.” It’s also Disney’s sixth-biggest animated release of all time and the industry’s fifth-biggest original animated film ever.
“Zootopia” has received a 98% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s the second-biggest industry release in Russia and has grossed $222 million in the booming Chinese market.
“Zootopia” was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, co-directed by Jared Bush, and features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate and Shakira. Goodwin plays a rabbit police officer who teams with Bateman’s fox con artist to uncover a conspiracy.
The film, which carries an estimated budget of $150 million, is the 52nd movie to top $800 million in worldwide grosses. It’s also the top worldwide performer among 2016 releases, topping Fox’s “Deadpool” at $754 million and Warner Bros.’ “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” at $683 million. The pic was released on March 4.

I think it has fairly good chances to make it past $1 billion after the Japan release on April, 23.
Holy crap... I was about to say that, there are still countries where it is not even in theaters yet, yet it made that much money, amazing.
[del]I am curious though, how much did it cost to make the movie?[/del] it says that in the article, duh

Estimated budget is $150 000 000
I saw the movie this weekend, I liked it. [sp]the part where the scientist is talking like a scientist saying it might be biological, (though didn't check for neurotoxin). Then carrot repeats that to Sly cooper and he goes, "what do you mean we people?". How do you write something organic and not hamfisted about a tough topic for a kids film, this movie is a good example. Also, "only bunnies can call other bunnies cute", damn. [/sp] Also I really liked the rendering, I hope they kept the data so they can re-render it in 16k 240 fps for future data formats. Heck I wouldn't find a form of VR video which isn't invented yet to watch it.

I just realized that by reading the article again, whoops. But anyhow, wow they already made more than 5x more money than it took to make it then, I am astonished.
Is that movie THAT good?

You can't argue with figures (and I mean both money and ratings)
Is that movie THAT good?
Titanic and Avatar were Box Office hits too.

How else is it supposed to make that much money?
How else is it supposed to make that much money?
did you know that a products quality is never estimated by how much money it makes?
see: transformers
Was this that good of a movie? I've heard very little about it, only that furries are absolutely losing their shit over it.

One way to find out. Most of the people I´ve talked to enjoyed it and a few didn´t. I can definitely understand some of their arguments.
I liked it enough to get over my dislike of cops.
but in all seriousness, its a pretty good movie. It's actually surprisingly subversive in some ways, despite some of the social commentary being a little ham-fisted. Most impressive was the world building they accomplished and the visual effects were top-fucking-notch.

Transformers is pretty good
I honestly didn't know this movie existed until after it became popular with everyone, I saw no advertisements of this movie around here for some reason.

lol
I'm disappointed as I've not heard this film includes a walrus.
figures don't say anything about quality
98-99% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes (95% if you look at the audience score) doesn't say anything about quality? You sure about that?

With a name like "Zootopia" you'd expect all kinds of animals but no it's just land mammals. I just wonder what the hell happened to reptiles, birds and amphibians? Did the get banished underground or something?

You know what you made it sound like.

Spoiler(?) [sp]when Judy's train enters zootopia, there was some giant tree with all the birds in it. It was only a brief few seconds. [/sp]

The thread is about how much money the film made. If you bring up figures people are obviously going to assume you're talking about the money
It's a good movie but it's not the kind of movie I'll buy the DVD for.
Not worth a second watch imo.

My bad, I should have made it clear that I meant both money and ratings.

It has more jokes then the sloths, I wasn't rolling the seats but it's enjoyable. Some of the renders have great detail, however some renders and models are better then others, why I want an HD version.
It was a great movie. I have already been wanting to see it again, I'll be buying the DVD.
I saw Zootopia last Friday. I loved every minute of it, might even be one of my favorites, probably going to get the DVD too. Likable main characters, good humor even for adults, and an engaging story. I'm a sap for animation, though.
Better than Frozen, at least.
Really fucking good movie 👌
I can see why, it's actually a pretty damn good movie, even if an alternative title could've just as easily been "Animal Puns: The Movie".
[sp]Though it's funny, I didn't recognize J.K. Simmons until he started yelling, and I didn't realize that Yax was actually Tommy Chong until the credits, the stereotypical stoner/hippy voice thing is done so much I figured it was just any old actor at first. :v:[/sp]
Took my little sister to watch it, I actually came out recommending it and loving it :v:
