It's fun as hell, I play without ever looking at the rust forum section. I don't have any friends that play it IRL so I tend to just grab my mic, log on to a server and make some friends.

it seems like the kind of game that'd be fun if you don't take it seriously and just fuck around. if you take it seriously it involves a lot of lying and manipulation and killing people who seem nice because you can never know if they're being genuine. i can't really see myself getting into that kind of thing.

I disagree, it depends whose on the server. I was on a server of nothing but bandits and there wasn't much productivity for neutral players save for the bandit's fortress.
I've meet some generous people and have been generous back, so that tends to keep the peace and allow for creative building.
