The front page of the Sun newspaper has infuriated mental health campaigners with the front page headline “1,200 killed by mental patients”.
Although the full story stresses many of the "high risk patients" who committed murder over the last decade were let down by the system, charities and MPs accused the newspaper of stigmatising those who suffered from ill health.
Labour’s health team wrote on Twitter that the front page “disgracefully reinforced” stigma, while Rethink Mental Illness wrote "Dear @TheSunNewspaper the number of homicides by ppl w/mental health problems has gone *down*. Front page is irresponsible & wrong."
This is 100% shitty reporting. And I've noticed a trend...
They (The Daily Mail included) just seem to target a minority of people to influence the public appeal of, then make a shitty article which effectively trolls them and really contributes no valuable opinion to anyone - and they do this tirelessly over literally anything they can sink their teeth into... damn, it really makes me rethink my opinions on a lot of stuff I've debated in the past...
Firstly, I apologize for having such a dumb anti-religious, anti-human and anti-culture stance previously - I guess I just got into reading some of these sensationalist stories and accepted their version of events and opinions immediately as being 100% true and accurate representations of the dynamics involved... which is precisely what these articles are engineered to do, on a mass scale.
Secondly, I'm going to read into the dynamics of whatever the topic is, before posting. And my responses will be as pro-everyone-involved as it can get - people as a whole don't deserve the blame that falls on them as a result of the actions of individuals. And successfully improving society means it improves for everyone regardless of influences garnered during upbringing - which needn't have even been an individuals choice.
You just never see news stories that cover the great things that humans of all races and religions are doing every day that help and encourage humanity. And when you never see that it's easy to forget about the wonderful accomplishments of humans. It's easy to build up a brick tunnel through which you see the world, blinded and blinkered by the negative press on intravenous drip - the negative press about murders, deaths and hatred and rejection. And it's also easy to see why with such misinformation readily available and displayed with prominence on the front page of a national newspaper with a circulation of over a million daily.
Finally, you'd never see an article about something like iatrogenesis - which is responsible for the deaths of 225,000 in the USA every year (making it the third leading cause of death in the USA). That covers things like unnecessary surgery (12,000 deaths), medication errors (7000 deaths), other hospital errors (20000 deaths), infections in hospitals (80000 deaths) and negative effects of drugs (106000). Yes, that's yearly and yes, it's obviously a huge problem, especially seeing as most of this stuff is preventable by taking more care, and sometimes stepping back and saying 'we don't need to operate, just take some rest' (often this approach leads to patient dissatisfaction however, due to lack of action being taken, hence the pressure to intervene with natural processes) - but people still don't even seem to know of it's existence. When you read a lot, you come across such interesting facts like this that sorta entirely eclipse articles like the Sun have produced here and throws their bogus statistics out the window - I'll make it my duty to uncover such facts in relation to what's being discussed.
Like, in the Sun article we're seeing 1200 deaths in 10 years - meanwhile iatrogenesis in the UK has resulted in 100,000+ deaths over the same time period. I'm not seeing a headline about that though...
Even more obvious is, how many non-mental people committed murder in the same period? Over 6800 at least.
What else do you expect from something owned by Murdoch?
expecting anything else from the sun?
calling someone a "MAN EATER"
red text of scarily high numbers on black background
terrible rhyming thing that doesn't even constitute a pun
football
yep it's a British tabloid alright
So these newspapers don't want strict press regulation, and yet they continue to unabatedly cross the line with these ridiculously misleading headlines and stories.
Awesome. We needed more demonising of the mentally ill and trashing of the health care service for no other reason than to scare people!
wouldn't even use it as toilet paper
