Ian MacKaye, Thurston Moore, Tom Morello, Guy Picciotto, Lou Reed form Occupy Musicians
[release]Occupy Musicians, a new group of musicians, labels and artists has been formed to show support for the Occupy Wall Street movement. Currently, the official website shows a brief message and the names of a significant number of supporters including Guy Picciotto and Ian MacKaye of Fugazi, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, Lou Reed of Velvet Underground, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, Franz Nicolay, Dave Allen of Gang of Four and many others.
The note declares:
We, the undersigned musicians and all who will join us, support Occupy Wall Street and the Occupy Movement around the world.
Check out the list of supporters here: http://www.occupymusicians.com/ Similar sites have been launched for film makers, comic book writers/artists and writers. [/release]

Musicians are liberal, who would have guessed? but seriously, pretty cool musician; and more importantly pretty smart musicians. Now we just need Fat mike and Greg Graffin on board, (some musicians with degrees) and then for them to actually DO something. (although Fat Mike already supports the movement and wrote them a snazzy theme song: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1142116 )
Guy Picciotto, Ian MacKaye, and Thirsty Moore?
well if you don't support the occupy wall street movement now you just hate music it's that simple.
bjork would probably also support the protests if she wasn't too busy flying to the moon and becoming a crystal
Tom Morello?
the occupy protests will now be full of people searching for a turntable and coming up empty
I was just listening to Rage Against the Machine the other day and wondered why I hadn't heard about anyone from the band doing anything with Occupy.

RATM is freaking awesome.
Also, great idea, but the name sucks ass. Occupy Musicians, wtf.
Should have asked the US Military for help, they always come up with cool titles. Like Operation Desert Storm", or "Operation Broken Sword."
If they visited occupy movements I might get to see Lou Reed
Which would be insanely cool

I was thinking exactly the same, during the 90's they were spewing out '' Viva la revolucion'' all the time and were the idols of the leftist youth. Ironically, Rage Against the machine occupied wall street one time in the 90's for their music video for ''sleep now in the fire''. But now they're reunited and the largest anti-capitalistism protests since years are being held, they keep their mouths shut. Except for Tom Morello it seems.
I'm happy to see Franz Nicolay on here, he's a fantastic musician and has been playing with plenty of bands and musicians that support the movement.
Here's Erik Petersen of Mischief Brew playing at Occupy Philly back on October 16th.

Nicolay played on this Mischief Brew song (accordion)

Just saw Rise Against in Glasgow with Tom Morello supporting and he talked a lot about Occupy and how you could support it, his stuff with The Nightwatchmen are very politically charged and fit in perfectly with the Occupy Movement.
Not surprised Morello is on this list, I was half-expecting Rage Against the Machine to come together and play OWS just randomly at some point.
To be honest. Who?

i'm sorry i'm just being honest.
(could you just put like a comma in there, it's kind of a run-on sentence and it's not really fun to read, thanks in advance)

I'd be pissed if they did, I traveled 9 hours just to see their only show this year.

They did LA Rising and during Wake Up, Zack de la Rocha kinda mentioned protests that'll occur in the next year until they do LA Rising 2012

Also Tom Morello is from Harvard University so I'd definitely call him educated.

I'm amazed that song is still relevant.
I'm amazed that song is still relevant.
If your amazed by that, go listen to anything by the Dead Kennedys, all still completely relevant.
Also, Jack_Thompson, Mischief Brew rules.
I'm amazed that song is still relevant.
The reason they haven't done a new album is they've said "when we go up on stage, we still believe what we're playing is relevant and is fit to be released on an album we put out this year. It isn't like the beatles playing back in the USSR or anything like that"
and anything by Fugazi, Sonic Youth, or even fucking Velvet Underground still holds relevance too.

They make some cool names, like Operation Infinite Reach, Operation Urgent Fury, Operation Neptune Spear.
Operation Overlord is my favourite.
