Ruth Davidson is to defy Theresa May’s plans for a hard Brexit and tear her Scottish party away from English control after the UK Tories’ disastrous General Election result.
Amid a growing clamour among senior Tories in London for Ms Davidson to be given a top position in the UK party, her aides are working on a deal that would see the Scottish party break away to form a separate organisation.
It would maintain a close relationship with the English party – they have been joined together as part of the United Kingdom Conservative and Unionist Party since 1965 - and its 13 MPs would take the Tory whip at the Commons.
Although it has•been mooted for some time, the imminent split between the Scottish and English parties is a direct result of a dramatic deterioration in relations between the Scottish Tory hierarchy in Edinburgh and 10 Downing Street.
This is huge news.
Thanks to the Tory/DUP's ridiculously slim joint majority, the 13 Scottish Conservative seats would take that away and, even though they'd definitely do some kind of deal, whether its a formal coalition or not, one of the main reasons behind this split is apparently because they want a soft Brexit where we remain in the single market at the "expense" of keeping free movement. So after this, the majority of seats in Parliament would be going to parties which support a soft Brexit.
Also, they're generally a more moderate wing of the Conservative party, so we can expect a lot of the crazier Conservative shit to be watered down, since a split would give the Scottish Conservatives a lot more power.
Although, they're apparently hoping to keep the Tory whip in parliament, so it's not really clear how much they'd be willing to defect from the national Conservatives.
This would be incredible. The one positive for the Tories at this election was their gains in Scotland, and now even that is at risk of being overshadowed. Bravo, Mrs May!
Hahaha.
It's hilarious watching May's plans fall apart. I think this will be the straw that break the camel's back. May's going to lose the premiership I think.
HOLY SHIT AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
SPLIT THE FUCKING RIGHT
soft brexit looks really really likely now
and to think May called the election because she wanted a bigger mandate for brexit negotiations

May called the election to decapitate the Left, only for her sword to bounce off and get stuck in her own neck.
I would not be too overoptimistic over this:
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson has dismissed reports that Scots Tories might "break away" from the main UK party. She tweeted that she fought a leadership campaign opposing the idea of a separate organisation in Scotland.
Tory MSP Murdo Fraser, however, said Scots MPs would "work behind the scenes" to champion Scotland's interests on issues like immigration.
The Scottish Conservatives won an extra 12 seats in Thursday's election.
The performance of Tories north of the border was in marked contrast to that in England and Wales where Prime Minister Theresa May lost her majority in the House of Commons.
Ruth Davidson is denying it.

But then again, we weren't going to get a general election.

you know for all this country's done wrong it's great that our politicians can say "bollocks" on twitter
Yeah, the idea of Ruth Davidson taking her party away from the National Cons is pretty ludicrous, was never going to happen.
Calling them more moderate than the national cons is also fairly bollocks, as they're basically more moderate in that they're for soft Brexit. Other than that, they're the conservatives you know and love. (Supporting the Rape Clause for benefits claimants etc)
So is this horse shit
