Najib was in Hawaii on a vacation at the same time as Obama, and the White House said the president invited the prime minister for a round. Obama, who has been criticized for playing golf, including after the beheading of U.S. journalist James Foley by the Islamic State militant group, has played several rounds since arriving on the island late Friday. The frustration over Najib's round was apparent on Twitter. According to the Malaysian Insider, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told reporters: "We must be fair. The prime minister also has his time for a break as he has been working so hard. He is also a human being. I told him not to worry and to have trust in me, we will manage the issue in whatever way we can." He added that floods were an annual occurrence in Malaysia but that they were much more challenging this year. However, "there is no need for Najib to come back immediately," the deputy said.
I don't they expect these people to do, personally fly down and rescue refugees? When a world leader travels around, their cabinet follows, it's not like they can't run the country.
Even if he isn't able to imminently help the situation, it's extremely demoralizing when such an important figure seems to be perfectly detached from woes of their country. He should cancel the vacation out of solidarity, if no better reason, and take it sometime later.
Hey man being a leader of a country is tough work, sometimes you need a little golf.
Something something Zoolander something something. Also, some people will get outraged at anything.

California is dealing with a serious drought right now that many would call a crisis, but getting mad at Gov. Brown or Obama for taking the day off for Christmas instead of working to resolve it would be silly.

It was over the news the past weeks or so.
Maybe golf with Obama can secure a deal that will help with the coming economic hardness?
Hey man being a leader of a country is tough work, sometimes you need a little golf.
Kim Jung Un knows that feel
as bad as obama playing golf looks, being president is a stressful job that involves one tough call after another. Playing some rounds on the course is probly one of the few things that keeps him sane.
You guys don't get that golf is a business tactic. Business schools literally offer golf lessons because most major figures use it to strike deals.

However, it looks terribly bad to be away from home and making nice with foreign leaders when your country is in the midst of a natural disaster.
Facetime with the leader of the free world over a round of golf is way more important than whatever help he could offer his people otherwise. This is a valuable opportunity, and not taking advantage of it would be a waste. What do they expect him to do? Get on a boat and start rescuing people?
I don't even like the guy and the party he is leading but I have to agree it's better for him to spend some time improving relations/striking deals/whatever country business than go back home
In other news American sit on their ass while the rest of the world suffers. What the heck is he supposed to do? adopt them all?
Well it's not every day you get to bond with the leader of the most powerful country in the world. I can't really blame the fella.
not mentioned is (I think its this game at least) the fact that Obama's reservation for this course forced an Army couple to have to relocate their wedding. He personally called and apologized to the bride though :v:
Being a national head figure and hanging with the rest of them is rarely relaxing, and virtually never for recreational purposes
In other news American sit on their ass while the rest of the world suffers. What the heck is he supposed to do? adopt them all?
it just looks bad. his is the figurehead of their country, and it's just showing the masses that he cares more about rubbing elbows with obama than being there for his country. i mean, i think everyone realizes that there isn't a lot he can actually do, but it still looks like he is chilling out relaxing while his countrymen suffer. [editline]29th December 2014[/editline] makes people think the government doesn't care about them.
