I'm just here (probably because I'm steaming) to show you how to get into electro.
There are sub genres of Electronic and believe it or not there is a difference between electronic and electro; despite the latter being an abbreviation.
Here is a list of DJs that are good in the field of electro (Mostly electro-house at review), I recommend that you listen to these bands in the following list at any order:
Please note, the following list of artists are more light on the ears; with a few exceptions..
Justice
Daft Punk
Boys Noize
Royksopp
Simian (Mobile Disco)
Mr.Oizo
SebastiAn
Bloody Beetroots
Soulwax/2manydjs
MSTRKRFT
Kavinsky
Teenage Bad Girl
Jackson And His Computer Band
Yuksek
The Twelves
Fake Blood
The Proxy
Busy P
DJ Mehdi
Krazy Baldhead
DJ Feadz
Surkin
The most experimental of the list being Jackson and his Computer band and Royksopp.
These are the absolute cream of the current electro scene, there are many other bands that do this sort of music - but not as consistently as these. I'm guessing I've probably missed out on a couple of bands, but the genre ranges from light pop to verging on techno; but also keeping it's distance.
I would add The Crookers, but I think their music is horrible. I've met them and they're nice guys but they're really not my cup of tea musically. But they do a good live set - I cannot highlight how much better music is live.
I hope that you take your time to venture into this genre, because it's almost changed my life. CHEERS! AND GOODNIGHT VIENNA!
I'm a big fan of Drone, Dark Ambient, and old-school EBM/Industrial.
Justice and Daft Punk aren't DJs
are you out of your fucking mind? i know exactly what i'm talking about, i've seen almost all of the above bands on various occasions - and i know you could count justice and daft punk as producers, but they're also DJs; what do you think they are when they play live?
I'd hate to have the term DJ coined to me.
Aye go on and keep editing your posts, they dont call themselves DJs because they're both duo bands; see the pun intended when two members of soulwax started playing under the alias "2manydjs". Whether you like it or not, if you mix electronic music live you are branded a DJ.
I didn't intend to get into an argument when I created this thread, I just wanted to introduce people to this genre if they haven't already been graced with it - it's understandable if people wouldn't have taste for it, but people trying to have a dig at what I've been researching and loving for the last four-or-so years is just ridiculous.

The term DJ makes me think of dance music, or similar genres. :v:
The term DJ makes me think of dance music, or similar genres. :v:
Yeah, the term has been way way overused in the last decade - it's just been there for the taking and to be honest I didn't take taste to it the first time I heard the term. Everything associated with it just seems to point to stupid neds/chavs making their own shite music! :v:
[editline]06:15AM[/editline]
I'd add Crookers, but I don't really rate their music (apart from their awesome live performance) - only because I met and drank champagne with them at rockness :v:

So why the fuck did you call them all DJs?
Justice and Daft Punk aren't DJs
A lot more of them aren't either.
Also, this topic is pretty biased towards forms of house and a lot of lighter stuff, in my opinion.
The best one on there, in my opinion, is Jackson and His Computer Band. He has some really interesting sounding stuff compared to a lot I've heard.
Justice and Daft Punk aren't DJs
umm yeah justice definitely are djs and they do both dj sets and live acts

How can you not have Aphex Twin? Also check out Boards of Canada, Autechre, Brain Eno, and Kraftwerk. Kraftwerk are gods of electronic music.

Flying Lotus and Tycho fit in with those guys as well.

not really, they where just pioneers to a certain degree
[editline]04:12PM[/editline]
also op, most of the producers you listed are electro house, not electro
and the proper name for electronic music is EDM, then the more experimental stuff is either IDM or EBM
Croooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooookers
[editline]12:57PM[/editline]
way to forget to add Steve Aoki to that list,
you must be new.

I'm a huge fan of Veto. Seriously, if you like electronic music with a hint of rock then I'd recommend them.
Here two songs from their newest album:

Pretty good taste in music.
Soulwax are a rock band
2 many DJ's are the same but they only play DJ sets, so it's not electro
Needs more EBM.

I like gabber and hardcore mostly, with some trance and ambient. :sax:
How can you not have Aphex Twin? Also check out Boards of Canada, Autechre, Brain Eno, and Kraftwerk. Kraftwerk are gods of electronic music.
True, I'm a big fan of BoC and kraftwek as well as Aphex Twin.
way to forget to add Steve Aoki to that list,

Steve Aoki is a cunt.
also op, most of the producers you listed are electro house, not electro

I guess that's true, keeping in mind I was drunk when I made this thread - I didn't really take into account the EDM, IDM and EBM acronyms; you learn something everyday!
Soulwax are a rock band

Only Soulwax's studio work is of an entirely instrumental aspect (Besides their remix album under the Soulwax alias) - when they play live, it's 2manydjs with a drummer and a bassist playing their remix album. I was talking live-wise.
2manydjs play a little electro on their live sets too!
So why the fuck did you call them all DJs?
I worded my reply to the other guy's post wrong, what I meant is people that give themselves a name and purposely coin DJ to it - and boast about it.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
