No it should be as diverse as possible. Because Humanity should be represented in the galaxy for the multiple people. Men and Women, Black and White, etc.

If you are selected to be an astronaut i assume you have the right qualities & training man or woman.
No. It should be whoever is most qualified. Send only the best.
No, the first mars mission should be with a competent crew, woman or male, black or white, hispanic/arabic/caucasian/asian or whatever, i don't care, this is another step for humanity, not a way to push your political agenda or your SJW agenda or whatever. We need competent people, not people chosen for their trait.
nope
Did you guys even watch the damn video? There's legitimate reasons to send women rather then men, it's not some fucking political agenda, there's actual reasons.

This isn't some political argument that women deserve this because men went to the Moon or anything like that, he's talking about actual physiological advantages like women not suffering vision impairment in space and consuming less calories when performing similar tasks.
Why the fuck is this even a question? [editline]28th August 2016[/editline]
Did you even watch the video?
Why the fuck is this even a question?
And why didn't you watch the video or read the thread? I can see myself repeating this question a lot...
Yeah send only women and you'll have bickering and bullying in no time. You need a rooster to keep the hens in line.
Yeah send only women and you'll have bickering and bullying in no time. You need a rooster to keep the hens in line.
Where may I sign up?
Yeah send only women and you'll have bickering and bullying in no time. You need a rooster to keep the hens in line.
I'm pretty sure women who qualify as astronauts are above that sort of drama. I've never heard of it happening on space missions at least
Whoever goes to Mars I hope they will either all step on the ground together or the first steps shouldn't be filmed at all. It shouldn't be seen as an accomplishment of a one single person, but the whole team.
I too thought the answer was no, but I decided not to be impulsive and not comment on a 10 minute minute video 1 minute after the thread was posted.

It could be because of the longer space flights men take since women are only allowed half the time due to radiation. If proper radiation shields come along and it turns out the radiation from prolonged space flight was the issue there isn't much to argue about. The food cost is negligible too since mixed gender teams are proven to work better together than same sex teams. And I'd rather the team doesn't fuck up due to bickering wasting the entire budget rather than the small percentage they save on food.
No. It should be whoever is most qualified. Send only the best.
Which, if you watched the video, seems to be women. It's many billions of dollars. Also, the bolded part is sexist.

If either gender groups start bickering it could blow the entire operation. costing more than just food budget. Food cost was also .5-1% of the budget, a negligible cost compared to the entire budget wasted if issues in the team make the operation go bad.
You need a rooster to keep the hens in line.
Should the first mars mission be all chickens?
Should the first Mars mission be all Martians?
There's no starbucks on mars

They will all just starve anyway. Check Mate
I like the fact that because we don't have proper shielding that radiation risk is mitigated for some reason? [editline]27th August 2016[/editline] It should be a mixed crew of our best; not single sex group. Also I love how 'we can just spend money on anti-biotics' Aren't we trying to save money?
It should be a mixed crew of our best; not single sex group. Also I love how 'we can just spend money on anti-biotics' Aren't we trying to save money?
what 100$-3000$ dollars worth of anti-biotics would already be enough for the trip compared to saving half a billion dollars from food, that's completely negligible
Kind of hilarious how many people assumed this was some dumb culture-war bullshit, got butthurt about it, and immediately reached for the torches and pitchforks, when it's actually based on actual physiological differences, and is pretty intelligent (if a bit obvious to anyone who's done enough research on long-duration spaceflight).
if all the most qualified people for the trip are women then sure, But sex and race should be a ZERO FACTOR
Males had a lower heart rate during stressful situations, suffered fewer urinary tract infections, and coped with landing better and females were less likely to suffer vision or hearing impairments. In the study there were 477 male astronauts but only 57 female and the report stresses more data is needed to draw conclusions. In short, this is a bad video and there's absolutely no way, at this point, to objectively draw the conclusion that the video makes.

I swear, half the people in this forum have an attention span the size of an ant. It really shows in Sensationalist Headlines where a lot of people people see a headline that was likely edited by the thread poster, and then immediately base their shitty opinions on it and nothing else.
it's actually based on actual physiological differences.
There's never any discussion regarding physiological differences in gender because as soon as someone mentions it, it's considered biotruthing. See any thread about women in the army.
