The soaring cost of oil is causing growing strain to economies around the world, rich and poor.
With prices more than doubling in the past year to $135 a barrel, the impact is being felt acutely by consumers and businesses alike.
The risk of strikes and social unrest has become a reality in many countries as fuel becomes unaffordable for more people.
BBC reporters around the world examine the effects of the oil prices on their regions.
Right now my local gas station is at 1.95.
~~no shit~~
I mean oil obviously isn't infinite
Why are we still burning oil instead of using it for good stuff?
Wow really this is a surprise!
News like this makes me sad every time. Knowing the briliant cars we have today is soon history. I'm gonna miss the gear changes and the sound especially.
I love the progress their getting with electric cars tho like tesla etc. So maybe soon normal people can afford electric cars that isn't boring and useless.
What happened to that bacteria which pooped fossil fuels?

Literally the mindset of most people I know.
Why are we still burning oil instead of using it for good stuff?
Because it's currently the cheapest method to get fuel.

Indeed, but not in the long run. We've already built up a nice and reliable oil dependency which will be a bitch to deal with once we run out, so why not plan for the future?
start using hemp oil, oh right that plant is still illegal because of the massive timber, paper and plastic lobbyists which are still lying to the public through the DEA just like they have been since they made it illegal in the 30s.

When they make a stylish environment-saver, I'll consider it.

You don't seem to realize why cars have the shape they do, now-a-days.
Hint: A pick-up truck will never be as fuel efficient as a properly streamlined car.

Nor as fast, if using the same engine/traction.
This reminds me, I've got to buy some petrol before work.
£30 will probably only get me just over 100 miles.
