President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday defended his decision not to receive the daily intelligence briefings that his predecessors did, saying he doesn’t want to be “told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years.”
Asked on “Fox News Sunday” about his decision to receive a Presidential Daily Briefing (PDB) just once a week, which is highly unusual compared to other recent presidents, Mr. Trump replied: “I get it when I need it.”
“You know, I’m, like, a smart person,” he said. “I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years -- but eight years. I don’t need that. But I do say, ‘If something should change, let us know.’”
He added that Vice President-elect Mike Pence and his top generals are receiving the highly classified briefings -- and said he’s always available to receive extra briefings if there are fast-changing situations that need his attention.
“Every president I -- I know, and I’ve worked under nine presidents, every one has taken their intelligence daily brief because that sets the agenda for what you have to focus on as president of the United States,” Panetta said.
Panetta added that there’s a big difference between checking in with intelligence briefers on occasion and getting an update each day -- and that for a president to really understand the universe of potential threats against the country, he or she must receive the briefing daily.
Any disbelief that Pence is pretty much our president should probably be dispelled by now.
Please let this be fake news. Holy fuck.
Next Pence will actually wear Trump's skin and take complete control.
For a """""smart""""" man. A lot of dumb shit spews out of his mouth like a broken septic tank.
Does he not think before he speaks?
Shouldn't the President of the country ALWAYS know what's going on 100% of the time?
Christ, this is practically a Pence presidency at this point.
Reminds me of that interview with the author of Art of the Deal, where he basically said that Trump has the patience of a child. So if I had to guess why he doesn't want daily briefings, I'd say that's why.
For the book, though, Donald "Stay and we keep the oil" Trump needed to provide him with sustained, thoughtful recollections. He asked Donald "Stay and we keep the oil" Trump to describe his childhood in detail. After sitting for only a few minutes in his suit and tie, Donald "Stay and we keep the oil" Trump became impatient and irritable. He looked fidgety, Schwartz recalls, “like a kindergartner who can’t sit still in a classroom.” Even when Schwartz pressed him, Donald "Stay and we keep the oil" Trump seemed to remember almost nothing of his youth, and made it clear that he was bored. Far more quickly than Schwartz had expected, Donald "Stay and we keep the oil" Trump ended the meeting.
He'll be too busy "making America great again"
I'm convinced he says dumb shit to distract us from more important things. I mean at least I'm optimistic about his stupidity, right?
Shocker. Donald Trump is a fucking moron.
Trump has said that his VP would be the most powerful VP in US history and Trump's job would be making america great again, it's already known that Pence is the Cheney to Trump's Bush.
Please let this be fake news. Holy fuck.
The truly despicable thing is Fox News doesn't have the full video of the interview on their site and only has choice bits to reinforce their god-emperor narrative.
We'll probably have to wait for the daily show to air the clip because other news sources don't want to get sued by hosting a competitor's content.

Except Bush was, you know, actually a president who took his job seriously. He was more than a puppet and he had plenty of his own initiatives.
I know a lot of his presidency is famously terrible, but he did actually do some good. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_policy_of_the_George_W._Bush_administration
idiot thinks he's a smartass, no surprise here at all.
I think Trump has a very severe case of undiagnosed ADD. I have it and can recognize the symptons from the short attention span, short memory, easily frustrated and reckless, the lack of patience and self control and more.
Only 6-8% of adults are unable to grow out of ADD, Trump may be one of those. You can say its narcissism but it doesn't take a disorder for someone to have a over inflated ego, especially with his upbringing.
I can understand why his father sent him to some military boarding school to try and set him straight.
yea I was about to say from that description it sounds like he's got undiagnosed add
having it sucks

My parents thought I grew out of between middle school and high school which turned out to be false for me, I'm one of the unlucky few who continued to have it and it destroyed me academically and socially because I went untreated.
Honestly if I had been born to wealth like Trump I probably would've turned out the same as him. Having it more than sucks, its fucking life destroying.
Uh. I think a simpler explanation is that Trump is greedy and a moron rather than that he has ADD?

You could say that and ignore the fact he ignores something he said the day before and does a 180 on a political stance, has the patience of a child, not an ioda of self control, easily frustrated and restless and more.
Mere greed cannot do that to a man, the Koch brothers are greed. This man is mental disorders incarnated.

So should we or shouldn't we worry about Pence's personal politics becoming policy?

Perhaps. I admit I don't know enough about these things. Trump never did give us a proper medical record thing. Do you think Trump having ADD would invalid him as president?
next eight years
lol
What a dumbass. Jesus, why was it now of all times that the DNC had to shove Hillary down our throats because it was Her Turn?

No, I wouldn't say it would invalidate him.
From my own experience going untreated it is still possible to function in society. It poses significant problems to the individual in life but nothing that can bar you from the presidency.
Being born to wealth has worsen his symptons I'd argue, a combination of greed and disorder. Despite his numerous failed ventures he has had the money to stay afloat. His ventures have been so varied and unorthodox it is like a child grew bored of one toy and wanted to get another - another common sign of short attention span.
With adequate treatment he should be able to serve fine but it being public that he has a disorder would be used against him and used by the democrats to instill doubt in his capability. Imagine it, "The first president to be elected to office with a disorder! Can he really serve with such a handicap?" Its the best ammo against him.

I was kinda hoping his policies and general temperament would do that.
A person with ADD could still be smart and knowledgeable, he isn't.

That's kind of what I'm afraid of. He should be invalid because of his policies, his temperament and his lack of ability - not because he happens to have ADD, if he does have it.
I just hope we have moved on from the past where disabilities were treated with suspicion and not understanding.

The public doesn't care about policies or temperament. They care about feelings and a large nunber of people can be easily swayed by talk about disorders. Can you imagine how the democrats can word it to attack him? It doesn't have to be ADD as well, it can be dyslexia.
There is a large portion of our population who do not understand and are afraid of the idea of having a disorder. They're afraid of being different and if this can prey on their emotions it could actually work against him.
As a dyslexic person I swear to god if anyone is attacked and deemed unfit for office because they have fucking spelling difficulties I am going to shoot myself.

Bribery is a hell of a drug
every day i wish that john kasich were trump's VP
lmao if the military finds out you have ADD they'll fucking kick your ass the fuck out. If you want to serve your country and get the boot for having ADD, the presidential office should not be held to a different standard.

kasich should have accepted trump's offer

Yeah the presidential is undoubtedly more important but its not like serving in the military. Its a civilian office and not a military position.
Military requires you to listen to your superiors without error and follow directions to the letter, and more. With ADD you can be deadweight and no one is arguing that.
The only thing the two share is the immense pressure but the president has advisers and counsel and more, as well as having access for treatment.
The ADD exemption in the military is relatively new, my dad had it and I assume still does yet he served in the air force under Carter and Reagan.
