I'm thinking of getting a car soon, and I originally wanted a Mercedes 300D (one of those old ones that "run for a million miles"). But I decided their age would lead to many expensive, frequent repairs, so that was knocked off my list. I then decided on a (used, of course) Subaru WRX STI because of it's power and cool sound. In a perfect world, I would have one of those with 40mpg, but oh well. What do you recommend for a first car? -Kinda sporty -Fuel Economy (nothing with 15mpg) -Preferably good sound, like the wrx or a camaro -Low(ish) price (I don't have THAT much cash)
Where do you live?
Where do you live?
South Bay in California (South of San Francisco)

What is your budget?
Buy that Merc, get a nice Volvo or buy a E30 BMW.
a sti? are you paying for your own insurance?
I would get a "cheap car" for the first year or two. If the conker does not get totaled than get the car you want. Hell Before I got my Audi I had a 84 Ford XLT Lariat that I sent threw a few side-of-the-road objects :D I wish I still had my old truck man its inline 6 was fun. :(
also op do you know how much used sti's are anyways?
Dp i dont understand you had a truck with inline 6 torks it was rwd your first thought for rain drifting wasnt to gas it in a curve but to stomp the ebrake pedal down WHY?
how much are you able to spend?
Get a regular Subaru Impreza. Still handles great, still has the symmetrical AWD, still has the Boxer engine, just doesn't have as much power and gets 25-30mpg.

This might be just me, but I think that the 2007 Volkswagen GTI (Called GTI even though it looks like a golf) is an amazing car. Sporty 4-door hatch with plenty of pedal power. She sounds excellent and you look like a pro when driving one. I love this car and hope to get one. FF Auto Would not own.
Buy that Merc, get a nice Volvo or buy a E30 BMW.
I second an E30 BMW. Its my first car and I'm loving it so far.
E30 or E36s aren't bad, my first car was an E36. Parts are fairly cheap for them, as well.
I got my 2003 golf GTi for a little over 4k and I love it. Last time I filled up I got 31 mpg, 0-60 takes around 7 seconds with 130k miles and not power shifting, and the turbos sound is so addictive. Everything about it was made to be a great first car, it's like half the size of all the other cars on the road (In America at least :v:), parking is a breeze, safety ratings are great because you're surrounded by airbags, and the back is pretty much all glass so there's no blind spots.

Miata's a re pretty sporty, no?
you look like a pro when driving one.
Not at all
Get a used Legacy or Impreza or something Also Suzuki SX4 is pretty decent, especially the AWD model. My friend has one (manual), I've driven it, it's pretty fun and nimble and gets 32 mpg
Hay AA wat car is gud? Quit kidding yourself and buy a civic. :>
how much are you able to spend?
As little as possible, maybe $3000-4000?
Also recommending E30 or E36.
get something really shitty so when you get your first dent on it, it won't matter as much
get something really shitty so when you get your first dent on it, it won't matter as much
... Maybe that ae86 wasnt such a bad idea.
