If you thought the Japanese had really fucked up movies, we Koreans have been trying to compete with them. Unlike whereas they rely on gore and WTFmoments, we just really rely on really fucked up scenarios and saddest endings / moments. Our best known ones are probably the vengeance trilogy. He tries to donate his own kidney to his sister, but his blood type is not compatible with hers. When Ryu is fired from Ilshin Electronics, he meets illegal dealers of organs, and the criminals propose that he give them his kidney plus ten millions Won to obtain a kidney suitable for his sister. Ryu accepts the trade, but he does not have money to pay for the surgery. His anarchist revolutionary girlfriend Cha Young-mi convinces him to kidnap Yossun, the daughter of his former employer Park, who owns Ilshin Electronics. However, a tragedy happens, generating revenge and a series of acts of violence.
Fucked Up Rating: 7/10 - Just more or less sad occurrences after the other, you feel more sympathy like the title rather than going what the fuck, holy shit. His best friend No Joo-hwan releases him from the police station, and while calling home from a phone booth, Dae-su vanishes. Indeed he has been abducted and imprisoned in a room for fifteen years. One day, he is suddenly released, receives clothes, money and a cellular and meets the Japanese chef Mido, and they feel a great attraction for each other. However, Dae-su seeks for his captor and the reason of his long imprisonment. While looking for revenge, Dae-su discloses deep secrets from the past
Fucked Up Rating: 9/10 - The ending will really confuse the shit out of you and go WTF. No really it will, if you thought Japanese plots were fucked up, the movie's ending will surprise you. Not to mention, this film is considered to be the best in the trilogy. She finds a job in a bakery; she orders the manufacturing of a special weapon; she reunites with her daughter, who was adopted by an Australian family; and she plots revenge against the real killer of Won-mo, the English teacher Mr. Baek. With the support of former inmates from prison, Geum-ja seeks an unattained redemption with her vengeance.
Fucked Up Rating: 9/10 - The later half of the movie really made me squirm, especially after they showed tapes of the kids and the reaction of the families. And like the title says, you sympathize with a lot of the characters. My half-assed fucked up rating and imdb summary quotes don't really do it justice, I simply recommend these movies to you guys because they're really good. Has anyone else watched any of these movies?
Old Boy is an amazing film, I really loved it. I haven't watched the other ones just yet.
Seen the trilogy, I loved all of them.
Old Boy was incredibly confusing. I have not finished it.
Old Boy wasn't confusing at all, and I'm usually confused watching movies.
An old friend recommended me Old Boy last year. I watched it and I loved it. One of my favorite films. I have yet to watch the other two films, though.

At the time that old boy was released on dvd, I went ahead and rented it to see what was so special about Old Boy. I found nothing special about Old Boy. I guess I will give Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance a go, sounds interesting.
