[release]Microsoft is preparing to change the style of its famous Windows flag for the next version of its popular operating system. Currently nearing a Consumer Preview release, Windows 8 will swap out the traditional red, green, blue, and yellow flag for a 2D Metro style version. Chinese site cnBeta first published mockup pictures (see above) of the new flag earlier this week and we have been able to verify the authenticity of the new design.
The four-pane Windows logo, typically found projected onto a waving flag, has been replaced with a more flattened, angled, and window-like appearance. The new flag will appear in the charms bar, activated by touch, mouse or keyboard. It is also expected to replace other instances of the traditional flag in Windows 8, marking a fundamental change of design aesthetic combined with Microsoft's Metro style Start Screen. The flag change will tie into Microsoft's "Windows reimagined" marketing for the new operating system and is expected to be the first of many changes to the way that Microsoft markets Windows and its brand identity throughout 2012.[/release]

Well they already removed the iconic Start button, why not remove the logo too?
yep that's a window alright
wow that's really dumb
the windows flag is an iconic brand

Same for music, see what they did to music with their fancy ass shit?

Everything is shit.
When I opened this thread without thinking I pointed at the screen and yelled "oh my god that looks like shit!"
Windows Vista 2
Holy shit that's a bad idea. I hope the mockup doesn't do the real one justice. At least keep the colors.
They'll probably change it in Windows 9. If they ever get that far.
Come to think of it, I can't think of any reason I would want to buy Windows 8 and plenty of reasons I would avoid it

Your Last FM says you exclusively listen to Metallica. Just saying.
Judging by how shit Windows 8 is looking, Windows 9 is going to be the best OS ever.

actually a lot of things about windows 8 are really neat and smart
just wait until panda x comes in to this thread and schools everybody
that's, uh, not even a flag anymore, it's an actual window
gg microsoft
In other news: Microsoft has not sold a single copy of Windows 8!
The Windows 7 sales, on the other hand, SKYROCKET.
Is it even worth to spend my money to upgrade from windows 7 when windows 8 comes?
It does not sound like a good OS to game on from what I've read and heard but I might be wrong.
The emerging design fashion of the 2010s i.e. flat colours and non-rounded corners can be pretty cool, Metro looks quite nice
But this is taking it way too far
Looks almost like a Scandinavian flag. Me like.

I rest my case.
I feel like I've taken a step back a couple of decades or so.

first half of the movie yes
I wonder if we can just petition that they bring back the old flag in this case.
"Let's turn the globally-recognized logo of our most iconic brand into an actual visual representation of the name of said brand. Did we mention it's been the same for 15+ years?"
-Microsoft, 2012
Oh noooooo, they changed the logo. This certainly means that Microsoft, of all companies, doesn't know what they are doing. How can this operating system be any good?!?
I'll never understand why you people are so damn bitter about these changes. You make no sense. Microsoft isn't going to ruin their product, they can't afford to. Go ahead and stick with 7 for the next 8-10 years, the rest of us will look at you like you look at XP users now. Outdated and afraid of change.
I think they just leaked a mono-chrome version i mean microsoft arent going to be that dumb and make it monochrome (i hope not)

Please don't ever voice your opinion on anything ever again and just go back to listening to your metallica.
That said, this proposed logo looks like it was designed by an 8 year old that just learned linear perspective from their elementary school art teacher.

oh I'm sick and tired of you people who constantly have to make a point of other people for doing things
the Windows logo has been more or less the same for quite a while with minor improvements here and there. this is a radical change that for one, looks like ass, and two, loses the iconic value of the original logo. It's bad from a marketing standpoint because what happens when you change a logo that's been used for quite a while? People get confused.

You must be a complete moron if you think of XP users like that.
Many people just prefer it, for various reasons. It's called preference, you anti-hipster nazi.
