CURRITUCK CO., N.C. – A 16-year old Knotts Island girl is charged with fatally stabbing a newborn baby.
The teen went to the emergency room of Chesapeake General Hospital on Friday evening, June 17.
Rebecca Blackmore said she had just given birth to a baby, that the baby was dead, and she left the child in her bedroom closet.
When Currituck County Sheriff’s deputies got to her home in the 200 block of Knotts Island Road, they discovered a dead baby girl in the closet.
The infant was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Greenville where an autopsy was performed on Monday. The M.E. determined the death was caused by stab wounds.
Blackmore is charged with first degree murder and is scheduled to be in court next Monday, June 27.
I knew about this story days ago because my mother works at this hospital and word tends to spread. Apparently they knew she had had a baby and when they asked her where it was she denied having a baby, but she still had the placenta inside her which meant she recently had one. So they asked her about five times and each time she said basically "I don't know what your talking about". As soon as the surgeon left the room one of the head nurses saw her pull out her cell phone and begin texting like crazy. So the cops went to her home and found the child about 4 hours later. This story makes me so pissed off, because to have the placenta inside of her means she had carried that baby for close to the full 9 months and for her to feel no attachment to this child sickens me.
:wtc:
Seriously, what is wrong with people?
Let's start stabbing slutty teenage girls.
Its been a bad news week, worse since the Japan disaster (But not nearly as bad!)
I hate too many 16 year old girls, don't make me hate them all!
I seriously don't know what to say here.

B.. b.. but... why?
Honestly, she must have been fucked up in the head. Stabbing her own fucking baby shortly after birth? And she must be a moron for thinking nobody would find out.

Obviously she didn't care, the article says she went to the emergency room and told them about the dead baby and where it was (not that she stabbed it though).

It's called postpartum depression, common in mothers this young. Stop assuming she was somehow malicious.
You stab a newborn baby it's murder, you cut one up in the womb it's "human rights".

amen
I think these are one of those "I don't know what to do, and I don't want to take responsibility because I want to go to be rich and have fun 24/7 PARTYPARTY" type of ordeals. I hope they put her in jail long enough for her to start understanding life isn't about you, it isn't all the fun and games, and the slight chance you'll hit it big and be rich. Life is about having a fucking backbone, having responsibility and a sense of pride, compassion, being a g-damned human being.
To every action there is a consequence.

You're entirely missing the bigger picture that we can learn from this, there's no way a 16 year old can look after a kid on their own and there is a huge lack of support for them. Very rarely does it actually get this bad but far too often we see young parents abandoning their kids or attempting to give themselves an abortion because they're ashamed and have nobody to turn to.
Mental health services for kids and especially for young parents is severely lacking and the social stigma attached to being a parent that young (something that has displayed itself in this thread already) is one of the reasons for this.
And I'm extremely sure this wasn't just a lack of compassion as you seem to think, stop oversimplifying everything.

She actually never told them about the baby. They searched her home because they knew she had had a child recently and she denied having one. The story left out a lot of details and changed a few details.
Well, North Carolina IS a relatively religous state. In societies where abortion providers and receivers are antagonised this is more likely to happen, the girl is a victim of the "pro-life" culture the society she lives in has adapted. If people do not like the humanitarian reasoning behind legalising abortion (or making abortion less antagonised in this case), then at least accept the utilitarian reasoning.

I don't think it had to do with pro-life/pro-choice considering how long she had carried the child. If she really didn't want the kid she could have done this months ago.

Minors can't just go and get an abortion in the United States, as far as I know they need parental permission.

I know. I didn't say they couldn't. But why wait until she gave birth to the child to kill it?

My hypothesis is that she lived with a Christian family, or otherwise had Christian friends, or attented a religous school, which might've prevented her mentally from getting an abortion due to fear of being antagonised by them.

Perhaps she knew her parents wouldn't let her get an abortion / couldn't afford it / was ashamed of it
Minors can't just go and get an abortion in the United States, as far as I know they need parental permission.
It depends on the state. It varies from no questions asked to requiring parents be present and an agreement by a government official (I'm not too sure on that last part, but I vaguely remember it).
Perhaps she knew her parents wouldn't let her get an abortion / couldn't afford it / was ashamed of it
But she gave birth to the kid. She could have easily of given it to an adoption agency. Her parents would have known by the 6th or 7th month that she was pregnant, so it's not like they didn't know. And if she couldn't afford it or was ashamed then like I said, adoption is an option.
