International engine builder Rolls-Royce did not pay any corporation tax in the UK in 2012, its annual report has revealed. The firm, which employs 12,000 people in Derby, reported a record year for profits but paid nothing to the treasury and received £3m in credit. Rolls-Royce's annual financial statement, released in February, shows it made £1.4bn in pre-tax profit in 2012, an increase of 24% on 2011. in other news water is wet
I wonder when people are going to realize tax exemptions for businesses aren't working properly.
in other news water is wet
Do you have a news source to back that up?
It said most of its sales were abroad and its tax liability was reduced because of its investment in research.
Most companies do this.
Make him buy a Bentley
This is Rolls Royce that makes aircraft and jet engines. The Rolls Royce that makes cars was sold off to Ford or something years ago
As a question, why isn't the government saying anything about this? Surely they lose way more money from hugely rich businesses not paying tax than people on benefits who shouldn't be? I don't know, it just seems somewhat odd. I know the businesses tend to line the government's pockets a little, but I didn't know it was this bad.

They're just using the "tricks" to save as much as possible.
So this doesn't happen only in the US...whew Not really. Sucks for you guys too
So what? They put a load of money into graduate schemes and research all around the UK so why are people complaining? I'd expect that research money to be stopped if creepy people with beards make Rolls-Royce get guilted into paying tax like they did with Starbucks a few weeks back.

That's just silly. If they throw a hissy fit and stop funding things then that just makes them look childish. That said, though, the government would probably fold if they were to be childish.
NO GUYS IT'S THE EU STEALING ALL OUR MONEY AND MAKING THE ASYLUMIGRANTS LIVE OFF BENEFITS. The government NEEDS to fix this shit.

I personally think that their charity stuff does better things than what the government may do with the tax money, however I do think they should change the law so large corporations should pay tax on what they earn.
I wonder how much do large companies pay off to politicians so tax loop-holes aren't closed.
I wouldn't say so much as loopholes as them being xbox huge defense contractors for basically anyone the US likes, so they'll be getting away with shit like that as long as they don't fuck up like Lockheed.
I wonder how much do large companies pay off to politicians so tax loop-holes aren't closed.
Nothing, loop-holes aren't just fixable - Starbucks avoided paying tax thanks to the EU free trade area and differing tax regimes between countries, perfectly legal.
According to its records, last year Rolls-Royce paid £218m in taxes abroad where it said it conducts 85% of its business.
