Yesterday evening a man was found laying in a secondary school gym stadium with a gunshot wound to the head, next to him was an undetonated hand grenade. The police say that the 45 year old man shot himself, news agency LETA was informed by the Country police Social relationship department leader Sintija Virse. Yesterday after 7 PM the police was informed that in Unijas street a man with a bullet wound to the head was found, the man was born in 1966. Next to the man was a grenade. Immediately the Latvian anti-terrorism unit ''Omega'' was called to the crime scene who destroyed the explosive on the spot. Agency LETA informs that the man might have wanted to do a suicide with a grenade, but after he failed, he shot himself in the head. The motives are unclear.
Note, source in latvian: http://www.apollo.lv/portal/news/articles/259966 I was there since the moment the cops arrived and cordoned off the area. Luckily no one else was harmed in the incident. The explosive detonation wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be, however I can show you a picture of what remained of the man, photographed it myself. NSFW, I guess: http://filesmelt.com/dl/0443.JPG
. . . He turned into vulcanized rubber?
I guess that was the brain matter mixed with blood. It was clearer in real life, you could see all kinds of bits and pieces.
Why a hand grenade, I dont understand.
I really don't know what to say, should I sympathize? I mean.. I guess I don't really have the right wording here.
Why a hand grenade, I dont understand.
Our stadium is a high activity area for russian teenagers. It's quite possible he wanted to take a bunch of them out with himself, however it doesn't explain why he didn't shoot them.
that could have been way worse
Wait, wait. So what happened in that picture? You said the grenade didn't explode but then you said it's what was left of the man after the grenade exploded. [editline]27th December 2011[/editline]
that could have been way worse
Could've been but it didn't get way worse because the fucker didn't know how grenades work. Take Liege in Belgium, a few weeks back. THAT was horrible. The asshole threw at least seven grenades at innocent bypassers then proceeded to shoot around before killing himself. A woman had her baby in her arms and the poor feller got shot in the head right there.
Sorry, bad choice of words. That's what remained in the crime scene after the man was taken away in a body bag.
Wait, wait. So what happened in that picture? You said the grenade didn't explode but then you said it's what was left of the man after the grenade exploded.
He said that where?
I guess whatever's in the picture is what's left of him on the scene after they took him to the coroner or wherever they take cadavers.
Russians must be a serious fucking problem if they are causing people to attempt suicide bombing to get rid of a few.
Maybe the targets were latvian, maybe no one was a target and he just wanted to go out like a badass, no information on that right now.

I guess they didn't remove the body first.
They removed it first, sorry.
]the Latvian anti-terrorism unit ''Omega'' was
this sounds like a badass group
It sounds more badass than "ARAS"(lithuanian AT group) :smith: Anyway how could a fucking military grade hand grenade not explode?
It sounds more badass than "ARAS"(lithuanian AT group) :smith: Anyway how could a fucking military grade hand grenade not explode?
It's Latvia.
Rain just started here, I can already feel that the blood puddle is now a red lake.
Fuck, I misread that and thought it said he was born in 1996. Though I hope there's a follow-up soon. I just can't imagine what his motives were.
Well, at least the grenade didn't explode and harm others. Nice to see a story where the person just commits suicide instead of taking a bunch of people out with them.
yes i agree jetblack357 this just brightens my day
Finland isn't much better are they, if you want to generalize things.
It happens in all countries.

Nope! Welcome to Riga.

How you fail to detonate a grenade? Just pull the pin and throw. Unless it was a dud, that is.
