Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said Wednesday that Congress may be forced to take action to limit video game violence.Speaking to an audience of around 500 in San Francisco, Feinstein, who led the charge in the Senate on an assault weapons ban, said the video game industry should take voluntary steps to make sure it does not glorify guns in the wake of the December mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. She added that if the industry does not, Congress is prepared to take action, according to the Associated Press. Feinstein said that video games play, "a very negative role for young people, and the industry ought to take note of that."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2013/04/04/dianne-feinstein-video-games_n_3016703.html
"We can't blame our precious guns, so let's blame something completely unrelated to the incident instead." Not that there's movies, books or music which can be equally violent anyway...
Nevermind the violent movies, gunhappy culture, mental issues the mass killers almost invariably have and every single possible circumstance that triggers people to do that shit - IT'S DEM VIDYA GAEMZ. Retards.
She needs to be voted out
Would you rather video games have folks "hugging" eachother with "water pistols" to make them "take a nap"? If people actually pull antics like this, they were going to regardless, i'd say. Feels like they just want to blame anything but themselves.
She is a moron. Someone needs to prove her wrong infront of the press and embarrass her into actually doing some goddamn research into the topic.
"We can't blame our precious guns, so let's blame something completely unrelated to the incident instead."
She's the same person who did blame the guns too. Anything she doesn't like, she tries to ban.
She is a moron.
She needs to be voted out
the GOP candidates against her in california are some of the most ridiculous people in the world unfortunately shes necessary, thats why shes always voted in
the GOP candidates against her in california are some of the most ridiculous people in the world unfortunately shes necessary, thats why shes always voted in
It's difficult to be more ridiculous and ignorant than Feinstein. Also does she not realize a lot of game companies are based in Cali, and can move if the state becomes hostile towards them, which would put a huge dent in its already failing economy?
Feinstein said that video games play, "a very negative role for young people, and the industry ought to take note of that."
Based on:
Oh no, ban those 17+ rated vidya games I give to my cheeldreen, I mean because ESRB doesn't warn us fellers.
I'm beginning to think that if it were adults that were killed in newtown instead of children, we wouldn't have this much hassle with gun control ever since that day. And they're starting to run out of things to blame, so why not point it at teh awwsum vidyuh gaimz. Dumbasses
There's a whole generation of people that disprove her theories. I've played violent videogames my entire life, especially during childhood, and it has had no negative effect on me.
I'm glad theres people like her to save us from evul video gaemz and evul barrel shrouds!
As an adult, its kind of hard to see the rationality of this. If they are gonna go try to guilt the Video Game Industry into making fewer "violent" games, are they gonna do the same for the Motion Picture Industry? How about the Television Industry? I just see it as Video Games are the one thing these people aren't interested in and lose nothing by changing in comparison to movies and television. EDIT: I have a feeling this is ultimately not going to work, so the government will fall back on its favorite alternative: Taxing the shit out of stuff. This is probably gonna be the start of some bullshit "violent video game tax" that they claim will some how help but in reality is just a way for them to profit.
If they ban violent video games, they should also be banning violent movies, books and creative writing.
• Approximately one-quarter of the attackers had exhibited an interest in violent movies (27 percent, n=11). • Approximately one-quarter of the attackers had exhibited an interest in violent books (24 percent, n=10). • One-eighth of the attackers exhibited an interest in violent video games (12 percent, n=5). • The largest group of attackers exhibited an interest in violence in their own writings, such as poems, essays or journal entries (37 percent, n=15).
Wouldn't it be easier to focus on bullying and mental health?
Almost three-quarters of the attackers felt persecuted, bullied, threatened, attacked or injured by others prior to the incident (71percent, n=29).

• Although most attackers had not received a formal mental health evaluation or diagnosis, most attackers exhibited a history of suicide attempts or suicidal thoughts at some point prior to their attack (78 percent, n=32). More than half of the attackers had a documented history of feeling extremely depressed or desperate (61 percent, n=25).
http://www.secretservice.gov/ntac/ssi_final_report.pdf
In January, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) told MSNBC's Chuck Todd that he believes "video games is a bigger problem than guns, because video games affect people."
lmao holy shit
Wouldn't it be easier to focus on bullying and mental health?
That shit's expensive. It's far easier and cheaper for the government to just shut down an industry.
Not that there's movies, books or music which can be equally violent anyway...
Rednecks blamed those too.. town's and cities in the south even burned Beatles record's believing they caused all of societies moral problems.

Why the hell do people in the government always have to place the blame on video games? There have been many studies trying to show a correlation between video games and violence yet one could never be found. On another note, I could be used as an example. In my 16 years of life, I've been playing violent video games for a large part of it (starting with Halo) including my school years. Not once in my whole life have I wanted to kill myself, kill others, or harm animals. I've never gotten into a fight as well. In fact, who do people always focus on the killer's interests or possessions? The gun didn't make him kill those people. Violent games/music/movies/writings didn't make him kill those people. He himself made him kill those people because he was mental.

Why not tackle all forms of violent media? Surely all the TV that's violent isn't a good influence either, and TV is much more widespread than video games. Now again I'm not saying that violent media is the cause, but if you're going to be an idiot legislator, at least go the whole fucking mile.
"We can't blame our precious guns, so let's blame something completely unrelated to the incident instead." Not that there's movies, books or music which can be equally violent anyway...
The have already been at it, like the book Rage, and that guy Marilyn Manson.

Humans are violent shits as a species. Videogames or not, it isn't going to change.
