Considering that the Apple Watch also officially released today, it isn’t hard to figure out why the company is doing this either. A developer earlier this week got an email from Apple, saying that their SeaNav US app no longer had a place in the iOS App Store because it talks about the Pebble smartwatch in the description. The developer talked more about his experience over on the Pebble forum: "We have just had the latest version of our SeaNav US iOS app rejected by Apple because we support the Pebble smartwatch and say so in the app description and metadata."
Well that's one way to make sure your smart watch thrives in your ecosystem.
Hidden *: this is only if you mention that you support Android Wear/Pebble in your description, not simply for silently having support. Apple isn't rejecting apps that do support competing platforms though, only those that mention they do. This is rule 3.1 of the App Store:
Apps with metadata that mentions the name of any other mobile platform will be rejected
apple being a cunt. whats up with lots of companies recently being a cunt?
BRB, switching back to android.
Isnt that anti-consumer and could get in trouble for it? Typical Apple though.

Still shitty though.

What the fuck does Apple have to lose from an app stating that its supported on multiple devices?
apple does it again! good work as always!
Isnt that anti-consumer and could get in trouble for it? Typical Apple though.
Always surprised about this, Google gets an anti-trust suit because of something in android and then apple is getting away with crap like this.
This is the same app store that rejected a fart/gross sound soundboard, and then happily accepted it when it was visually reskinned (with the original sounds intact) to have a sunny happy background and sunflowers for the soundboard buttons instead of green slime splats.
They sure are confident in their apple watch
They sure are confident in their apple watch
Judging from this news, they are not confident at all. So much so that they remove mention of other platforms from their store in fear that people will choose them over their own product.
i would like to point out that sometimes you just get an anal reviewer it's still pretty lame for them to do this
Judging from this news, they are not confident at all. Yet Google is the one being investigated for anti-competitive business practices.
Yet Google is the one being investigated for anti-competitive business practices.
They still should, but apple should also
Yet Google is the one being investigated for anti-competitive business practices.
Refresh my memory, what was the allegation against Google? In this case, 'don't advertise for our competitors' isn't really an unreasonable rule and there's no need to mention that the app supports other platforms in the description. That's just encouraging people to go get it on a different platform, and I can't blame Apple for not wanting that.

Would a link to a website containing the compatible smartwatches still break the rule?
[del]the android antitrust got dropped[/DEL] wrong antitrust, sorry, that was the california one, not the EU one the android one is still completely dumb
Especially considering that Apple's also been doing dickish shit, but not even receiving a warning
Yet Google is the one being investigated for anti-competitive business practices.
Man poor google, being bullied by big bag apple
Always surprised about this, Google gets an anti-trust suit because of something in android and then apple is getting away with crap like this.
but muh google is the default homepage on my browser! ya the EU going after google for anti-truss violations is sort of dumb when their competition either refuses to compete or wants absurd conditions like the german press disaster a few months back. Apple is litterally making any perifrial other than their watch non-compatible with their app store i do wonder though will this affect the actual pebble app though
Yes apple, good job, bring pebble to the attention of everyone so they can sell well. I acutally looked into pebble because of this and I'm actually considering getting one.

They promote their products on their searches because A. they are the most clicked items in the searches so auto ranks up there, and B. because it's their search engine. But EU wants no part in that. But it's OK if Apple promotes their products and sinks down and removes other products from visibility

Wait, so did they remove the official Pebble app? That would definitely destroy Pebble.
Wait, so did they remove the official Pebble app? That would definitely destroy Pebble.
No they didn't. Lots of Android users use Pebble, so it wouldn't end Pebble. But removing the Pebble app would absolutely alienate a ton of iOS Pebble users from Apple, not to mention be a PR nightmare. I don't think Apple is that dumb.
