(AP) - An ex-Alabama state trooper who was accused of raping a woman while he was on duty has been sentenced to six months in jail after he pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct. Samuel McHenry II filed a plea agreement in Butler County District Court on Thursday during a preliminary hearing. Charges of rape and sodomy that were filed against him have been dismissed. Court documents say McHenry drove a woman away from the scene of a car accident in early December and threatened to take her to jail if she didn't have sex with him. McHenry was later fired and arrested. Under the plea agreement, McHenry's Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission certification will be revoked and he'll have to register as a sex offender. He then pulled her pants down, raped her and afterward, forced her to perform oral sex, according to the documents. Only 6 months? Fucking scumbag. Rape and abusing his position to blackmail should have gotten him far more.
Should get far more, 6 months for something like that is pretty fucked I think the worst thing to happen to any cop is to get arrested imagine the reaction of everyone in there when a state trooper and rapist shows up
Considered it seemed like they had plenty of evidence, that seems really low. At least he's probably fucked for life being a registered sex offender.
Considered it seemed like they had plenty of evidence, that seems really low. At least he's probably fucked for life being a registered sex offender.
He is a rapist and a former cop, he might not make it out in six months.
Given the justice system has failed to act appropriately in this case it wouldn't be unfair to see this opportunistic predator see abuse from inmates inside prison. The fact he's a cop as well isn't going to do him any good.
Classic case of being so drunk on what little power you have that you'll hurt other people just to flex it.
McHenry will also be permitted to serve his sentence “in increments at his own discretion,” WSFA reported. The 182 days must be served within the next year.
Wow I really fucking hope this dickbag doesn't get to spend his time in solitary confinement, maybe we'll get lucky on one of those days. Dude looks like a smug ass rich kid bastard in that photo.
Bizarrely enough, its the same line his cell mate used on him.
Did he expect to get away from this? Do we really live in a world where people with possession of weed get longer sentences than a rapist who abused his power to have way with a woman who needed his help in the first place? I really hope prison won't go easy on him. Just like how he didn't go easy on that woman.
At least they put him on the sex offenders list, it pretty much garentees he would never get a job as a policeman, but a plea bargain that dodges verified rape is a bullshit abuse of the system, it should only have dropped lesser charges, but still put him away for longer
6 months is a short sentence, but a cop who's also a rapist in an Alabama prison probably doesn't have a very good life expectancy.
Silly, that list is reserved exclusively for drunk college kids that urinate in an alley away from public view
You actually believe this? Sure it's total bullshit that he got a light sentence, but they're not going to exclude him from the registry.
Bizarrely enough, its the same line his cell mate used on him.
"Fuck me or go to jail" That... doesn't make any sense.
Only 6 months? Fucking scumbag. Rape and abusing his position to blackmail should have gotten him far more.
He's a cop and a sex offender. He won't last a week.
Well so after actually reading the article it appears that both parties need to accept his plea deal and is not finalized yet. Also it appears the victim was involved in his plea deal so there's some more info were not getting which might account for the bizarrely lenient sentence.
He's a cop and a sex offender. He won't last a week.
He'll likely have close protection though, the prison will know he'll be at high risk the entire time he's there.
He'll likely have close protection though, the prison will know he'll be at high risk the entire time he's there.
He shouldn't get special treatment. Let him feel the full consequences of his actions, I say. It might cut down on future incidents like this if he's made an example.
He's a cop and a sex offender. He won't last a week.
Good thing he only has to spend a few nights at a time
I though this would go under some form of "corruption of duty" thing, by abusing his authority on duty? Surely that'd slap a charge bigger than all of this combined.
20 years is way too much for rape
Are you being sarcastic?
20 years is way too much for rape
"20 years is way too much for permanently scarring someone for life" [editline]5th March 2016[/editline] I mean yeah all he did was take advantage of a car accident victim and raped her, possibly causing serious emotional distrust for that woman for the rest of her life. I mean it's not like he's a cop and is held up as a position of authority and society and that he shouldnt' go around raping people Yeah poor guy, 20 years is too much!!! He should get a life sentence at the very least. If not, solitary for 30+.

Especially in cases with overwhelming evidence, like this case, 20 minimum is not asking for much. And before anyone tells me that I don't understand how time works and that 5 years is totally enough time to serve for rape, what you should understand is that rapists are getting off lightly pretty often. I think rapists look at the world with pre-conventional morals. Essentially, they have a child's understanding of morals, so, "I shouldn't do this because I will be punished." Only, adults are smart enough to know that they might get away with it. So if they're banking on getting away with it, if there's no serious repercussions to them specifically (hefty jail sentences), they have no reason not to do it. Certainly cops who abuse their power are counting on the fact that they'll get away with it. [editline]5th March 2016[/editline] And also, going with more brain stuff, I think there are "switches" in the brain that you can't turn off, once you turn them on. In other words, a rapist will always be a rapist, so why not keep the streets safer for a little bit longer?

I ain't saying your wrong, and in fact that sounds interesting if true.
Could you cite your last couple sentences? I ain't saying your wrong, and in fact that sounds interesting if true.
I don't have any specific citations. That's essentially my opinion from the various psychology classes and readings I've done. The Psychopath Whisperer talks about psychopathic brains and how the part that controls/influences/processes emotions has atrophied. So with psychopaths, a jail sentence can't un-atrophy their brain, so they'll get out and commit the same crimes. Psychopaths are also incapable of learning, so whether you give them five weeks or five years, they'll go out and do it again regardless.
I honestly think that crimes should carry higher sentences if you were an on-duty police officer when you committed them, much like how killing a cop earns you a bigger sentence.
Yeah absolutely, rape is a horrible crime. It will leave the victim with an emotional wound that will take a long time to heal. Of course the rapist should be punished severely. But 20 years is such a massive amount of time in a humans life (for reference: a sperm combined with an egg will become an adult human after 20 years). After a decade you've already lost everything and felt the distress of losing time; if they are not dangerous why should we keep them in any longer? Sex offenders aren't animals
Yeah, okay, but rapists are dangerous. Serious sex offenders are still human, yes, but they're dangerous. They've already proved that.
I honestly think that crimes should carry higher sentences if you were an on-duty police officer when you committed them, much like how killing a cop earns you a bigger sentence.
They do, when you are charged and found guilty of them instead of taking a plea bargain.
Yeah, okay, but rapists are dangerous. Serious sex offenders are still human, yes, but they're dangerous. They've already proved that.
Dangerous enough to lock them away for 20 years, especially on their first offense?
Weekly reminder that plea bargains are a shitty system..
