The team that created Rigs of Rods—an open source vehicle simulator based on soft-body physics—has taken its work to Crytek's powerful CryEngine 3 to produce one of the most astounding technical demos to date. The demo shows off a pickup truck as it drives over bumpy terrain and into walls, and crumples just as a real vehicle would in such scenarios. The soft-body physics engine allows the developers to create a realistic simulation wherein the damage done to the vehicle is neither pre-rigged or pre-animated.
You might think that it makes the vehicle look like it's made out of paper, but recall that most vehicles are made out of the same material they use on biscuit tins, so it's not too far off the mark.
Very cool but months late.

wow cuel, you're horrible.
I thought a guy from Facepunch was the one behind this
Late as fuck, but still I'd like to see this come to ARMA or any racing game.

It's by the rig of rods team.
IIRC Penis Colada is working on it
The newer video looks like their model suffers the GTA3 indestructible roof syndrome.

At least when nothing is falling directly ontop of it.
This needs to be in the next GTA game.
the suspension has always been set way way way too light in all of these physics demos

Is this stuff ever going to be released like the next Rigs of Rod?
This has potential for a multiplayer demolition derby game, and that'd be awesome.
oh god please I want a good off road driving sim out of this.
Sorry for the lateness, but folk keep bumping the thread. I was abroad when this came about so totally missed it until now.
This is what Motorstom was promising in 2006
Hopefully at least the cars wont be like driving on ice with slick tires like in ROR
