Rumored GOP candidate Chris Christie "slams" Libertarians
ASPEN, Colo. — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Thursday offered a clear broadside against Republicans drifting toward a more libertarian view of foreign policy, lumping Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) in with them and suggesting they explain their position to victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Maybe he should explain his position to the victims of the 9/11 attacks and how the same Neocon foreign policies he would sustain led Bin Laden to plan those attacks in the first place.

That party is so infested with extremist/senseless nutjobs that a few of them invariably rise in the ranks.
"Oh great, someone in the Republican party is finally pointing out how much bullshit right-wing Libertarian 'free market' economics are! About time!"
*comes into topic to see him attack libertarians for their foreign policy instead*

to be fair, its not just them. Obama has been continuing Bush's neocon policies, it maybe only the libertarians who can save us from endless war.
Did he jump on them?
I'm not so sure that 9/11 is to blame for the neocons as it is for Cold War beliefs in proxy wars and covert black operation assistance.
Al Qaeda never would have appeared if the CIA hadn't funded and trained Mujahideen operatives during the late-20th century. I'm not sure how much that is to blame for neocons as it is for a general foreign policy mindset which ran from the 1940s and, essentially, still exists today in liberal Presidencies too.
Chris Christie is an idiot. There is no doubt that he would be a worse president than Obama.
What we NEED is a Libertarian in office. It's bullshit interventionist policies that made half the world hate us in the first place.
What we NEED is for people to stop giving a shit about party lines and actually caring about what politicians are doing rather than what they say they will do.
Chris Christie is probably one of the worst American politicians. How does Jersey keep electing him?

But Republicans are all about free-market economics so I don't know why you'd ever think that was happening.
Libertarianism is a neat idea in concept but beyond that it's fucking terrible.
Trying to deregulate as much as possible won't suddenly make everyone more free. The free market won't decide to pay everybody a $10 minimum wage. Nah, you'll get a nice flashback to the turn of the century Gilded Age, with terrible wages, excessively long hours, and little else. Without environmental regulation, companies will literally dump toxic material wherever they want and wantonly tear through our natural habitats and national parks.
I get the sentiment of "less regulation," but "deregulate everything" is about as idiotic a standpoint as you can have. I don't understand how libertarians can criticize big companies and banks for unethical practices while simultaneously advocating that we get rid of their regulations and hand over control to private sector companies. It's just dumb.

America fucking around in the middle east is the reason why the Islamic extremist hate us. If America just minded our own business instead of exerting our power in a wasteful manner, people wouldn't be so angry and frustrated.
Chris Christie just lost any potential vote from me. While I'm not libertarian, I identify with some of their values and what he said is idiotic. You just alienated an entire sect of Voters, dumb ass.
By the way, 9/11 is not a blank check for you to declare war on any nation you want. What happened after 9/11 should have purely been an intelligence operation followed by SEAL Team 6. Fighting terrorism with an army is silly.

As a registered Democrat in New Jersey, I didn't like him either at first since he royally screwed up school budgeting. But the man is an expert in dealing with natural disasters and deserved mega props in dealing with Hurricane Sandy, so I've warmed up to him somewhat. I may not agree with him as a politician, but as a governor he knows what he's doing for the most part and I'm willing to give respect across party lines for that.

Like VinLAURiA said, he was incredible through both Hurricanes that absolutely ravaged NJ. He put a lot of effort into making sure the hard hit areas received the help they needed - especially because his heart broke after we lost a lot of the Boardwalk (aka, half of the reason people even like to come to NJ).
He's also reached across party lines in the past, and he won't take bullshit from his own party. He called out Congress's Republicans - especially Louisiana Repubs - who tried to block Sandy Relief funding. He embraced and praised Obama after Sandy. And he's willing to work with Democrats on key issues, even if he has a lot of major problems (i.e. anti-LGBTQA, anti-Union sentiments, fucking up schools, etc).

Given the economic fuckstorm they'd unleash, that cure would end up being possibly worse than the disease.
I've always hated the term "Slam" for articles like this.

Lol. The economy would be in tatters half of the time.

Personally I'd like foreign policy actions to take a different direction, not remove all foreign assistance entirely.
For example, rather than just having military bases all over the world, focus more money on humanitarian aid through the UN or related agencies. The effectiveness of this can be debated but that's another subject entirely, I'm just saying a completely hands-off "we're all islands on our own two feet" mentality is not the right way to go.
suggesting they explain their position to victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Ohoho, sure thing Mr. Christie:
We should stop supporting this form of foreign policy because it is going to continue to sour relations with everyone on the planet, and cause attacks an order of magnitude larger than 9/11. Being the international neighborhood bully isn't "justice" to victims of tragedies. It is an invitation for more attacks. You do not fight fire with fire.
We're not in the Cold War anymore, you senile old man. There is no "enemy" to fight, except the ones we have already created and by our actions, turned against us on ourselves.
