This little bit here is just another walk around Colbert Prime This one is much more interesting, however. Basically showing off how planets are made.
The world looks quite... bland.
The world looks quite... bland.
That's the point of the 2nd video, he's going through different stages of generation that the game uses. Starting with nothing but flatness. Also, it's not even running on the live build, it's running in their dev tools so everything is significantly poop looking.
Holy shit I can't wait for this game
I'm still waiting for gameplay footage of something more than exploring and naming things. I really want to like this game but so far I'm worried it's going to end up like an impressive tech demo.
The system is still called Colbert Prime in this one :v:
Wow, that's impressive. I hope this isn't rushed/doesn't turn out like another Spore. This has serious potential. Does it even have a release date yet?
Oof, a really hard cut at 2:44 in the second video.

For example factions have been confirmed but they haven't been shown. All we are shown are earth-like planets because Hello Games, or Sean Murray at least, believe anything else is spoiling the game. Read this page No release date yet btw, but a lot of people are thinking we'll get one this month, cross fingers! Also found out that game footage is actually around 12 minutes long but NewYorker only released a 3 minute snippet. Disappointed. They were supposed to stream it live too, but decided not to at the last minute (and even continued streaming their other techfest shows).
He also confirmed black holes like a year ago I think.
Aye, and multiple types of stars including ones that don't exist. No gas giants though, because they want every planet to be explorable. Bad move and I hope they changed their minds but meh, it's not that big of a downfall.

If people want to play a female, let them. If they want to design their ship or edit it, and seriously I'm not even talking upgrades, I'm talking aesthetics, do it. No Gas Giants also kinda sucks - if the game is about exploration, seeing stars and weird space-shit is great, but it'd be more awesome to see massive stuff like gas giants so that finding habitable planets is more rewarding. Getting support from other spaceships is nice, but the deciding thing that makes or breaks the sale for me is whether or not you can build or maintain a squadron/fleet of ships to tag along or fight with. I could forgive everything else if they pulled that off well.

You never see yourself so there's no reason to customize yourself. Though suits are generated just like the other game objects, and the upgrades to your suit, gun/multitool, and ship are all aesthetic aswell. I agree that no gas giants is disappointing, but finding habitable planets is more rewarding than you think, because I think it's like 15% of the planets roughly have life on them, you'll find lots of lifeless planets. Your ship will also tell you the elemental makeup of the planet which includes telling you if it's habitable for life (it's the far right panel in the demo ship) Also be sure to read the whole page and check out the information archives linked in the header.
I think people will enjoy this if people keep their expectations in check. The only mistake I think they can really make with this is to over price it. It won't be for everyone but it will be great for those who wouldn't mind kicking back and exploring while listening to some music.

You can't shit on an exploration simulator for being an exploration simulator because you imagined it would be something different. I'm just hoping the generation is very in-depth and the planets really do feel massively different rather than I'm looking at nothing.
