don't know if this has been done before but i thought i'd make it again
personally i dont think there will be a 'zombie outbreak' as from the movies but i think eventually there will be some sort of dangerous infection out break causing us to act as i it were a zombie outbreak..... but what do you think
Well, maybe the nature will come up with a virus to halve the human population once it has far exceeded any natural capacity (if we haven't already)
Or maybe not.
SARS was starved to death very quickly
If anything, if we still know what we're doing we could end a zombie virus (or similar virus) probably in a few months.
So long that the authorities lock down EVERYTHING in as little time as possible.

Yes, we must beware of the nature
All I know is Madagascar will never get infected.
Essentially a zombie like virus only has a chance if it's airborne and has a fairly high possibility of infection. The moment you have a virus that would only be transmitted by bite, touch whatever you would get a virus that would get eliminated at every smaller outbreak.
As to the existance of such a possible virus - simple answer - most likely no. While some diseases that change the behaviour do exist, it's either so destructive that the target can't act and get's eaten or aren't too strong - rabies for instance.
If a virus like that would ever exist, it wouldn't last long.
Zombies would be so easy to deal with in real life, they would never have a chance to invade whole cities and countries.
would be a very rare lapse in genetics and would take ages to mutate in order to yield the properties of everyone's stereotypical zombie super dooper evil virus
very unlikely
It's entirely possible, yet unlikely.
It could happen, but the chances of it are so slim that it's probably a bad idea to spend all your money on guns and canned food.
To those of you saying it's nothing and it'd get killed straight off, What if it's undetectable and airborne at first, Then it fevers and kills you, then you turn? What if a scientist released it in New York, Or how about LA? Then what would happen? The spread could not be stopped if something like that happened.
Insignificant. There is no known virus, parasite, bacteria, or prion that could convert the brain into a self sufficient organ, maintain the body for an extended amount of period with no cellular reproduction (while also being necrotic), or allow the body or brain to survive without oxygen. There are no infectious diseases that do something similar, to my knowledge, so it's not like a simple mutation could allow this to happen. It'd be a new disease, entirely. And the odds of that are...not good enough to bet on.

Then no, there's nothing that can be done. At first. If it really is that virulent, then it'd exhaust its body of infected fairly quick. The airborne strain would die fairly quickly, I can't see it surviving for very long. From then on out, it's a standard zombie apocalypse that'd be readily dealt with by survivors, the military and well armed Facepunch members.
