[release]SUFFERN, N.Y. (CBS) ― Former New York Giants great Lawrence Taylor was arrested after allegedly raping and beating a teenage girl in a New York hotel Thursday, CBS 2 has learned.
Taylor, 51, was taken into custody by the Town of Ramapo police at the Holiday Inn Holidome Hotel in Suffern.
Details surrounding the rape have not yet been released other than the location and that it occurred early this morning. Charges against the Hall of Fame linebacker will be filed once police complete their investigation.
A news conference is expected later Thursday afternoon where police will reveal more details. Taylor is expected to be charged with third-degree rape.
It is believed that a 15-year-old girl complained to the police after she said that Taylor hit her, meaning assault charges could be coming also.
When police investigated the teen's claims and saw Taylor in the hotel, he was arrested overnight, CBS 2 has learned.
Taylor's lawyer is former Rockland County District Attorney Kenneth Gribetz, who said his client is innocent and will enter a not guilty plea.
"We spoke to Mr. Taylor and we're convinced that he will be ultimately exonerated of these charges," Gribetz told CBS 2. "He's upset. He's obviously detained, he's upset and he wants to prove his innocence and be exonerated as quickly and as expeditiously as possible."
Taylor will be arraigned at 3 p.m. Thursday, Gribetz said.
The Journal News said the teen apparently was a runaway from New York City controlled by a pimp.
Taylor, affectionately known by his fans as "L.T.," spent his entire 13-year career with the Giants and is considered one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history. He was part of the Giants' vaunted "Big Blue Wrecking Crew," leading the team to Super Bowl victories in 1987 and 1991.
He was named Defensive Player of the Year three times and won the Most Valuable Player award in 1986.
Taylor recorded 132.5 sacks in his career, which doesn't included the 9.5 sacks in 1981 when the statistic wasn't official.
He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999.
His personal life has been marred by trouble before. He's admitted to using cocaine during his NFL career, and was suspended several times by the league for failing drug tests.
In 2001, Taylor was convicted of possessing drug paraphernalia in New Jersey. The conviction stemmed from the September 1998 discovery in a hotel room of a butane torch and other materials commonly used to smoke crack.
In 1996 and 1997, he was arrested in South Carolina and Florida on drug charges. In those cases, he either admitted his guilt or agreed to enter a pretrial intervention program.
In 2000, he drew five years of federal probation for filing false tax returns and for tax evasion.
Taylor said he cleaned his act up and was sober in 1998. He later starred in the feature film "Any Given Sunday" in 1999 as "Luther 'Shark' Lavay," and has worked as a color commentator over the years as well.
Last November, Taylor was charged with leaving the scene of an accident near Miami.
Police listed Taylor as a resident of Pembroke Pines, Fla.

I can't think of a pun for this one...it's worthy of one, I just can't come up with it.
So sucks for him.

No it sucks to be the person raped.
He's gonna get hard time for this.
What has the world come (and beaten)into :sigh:
touchdown
touchdown
The rape was bad enough, but did he really need to do an endzone dance after he was done?
Unsportsmanlike conduct?
Unnecessary roughness?
Did he sack her like she was Joe Theisman?
What if he didn't do it? Rich and famous people have been accused of untrue things in the past just to score some money.
What if he did do it? Rich and famous people have escaped justice before.
Fixed.

No, he's right. There's a reason when you're on a jury they tell you not to count the fact that someone was charged as evidence they're guilty.

But I'm not a jury member.

Well they can always use the evidence of bruises cuts etc. and maybe the evidence of "Her vagina is 10x larger than it should be"
But I'm not a jury member.
Good.
it's hard to make an unbiased jury in cases concerning celebrities.
Good.
I was just pointing out the celebrities get away with thing that normal people wouldn't. I would think assuming that the alleged victim is just out to get money would be just as bad, if not worse.

Nobody's claiming he's innocent, he just pointed out that he could be.
Sucks to be him.
Sucks to be him and the rapist.
So the girl was ONLY complaining about being hit?
