After 68 days of absence, photos showing the president and his daughters reading the Granma daily newspaper edition of February 14, 2013 were published on Friday

I ran the photos through an ELA test and got this:

The first one looks sort of ok, but check out the area of the newspaper in the second one. Smells like BS in here...
I've never analysed an ELA test before, can you explain it? I assume it's a Photoshop test
An ELA test is one of these - http://blogs.journalism.co.uk/2011/10/25/tool-of-the-week-for-journalists-error-level-analysis-to-test-if-a-photo-is-a-hoax/
It is worth noting that edges and areas red in colour are often depicted as brighter in the ELA tests. This due to the way the photos are saved by various programs. It is not proof that image was manipulated.
The first picture isn't altered. Where did you get the second one? I don't see it in the source.
What is there to fake in those pictures?
I doubt that ELA thing even works on those images since I doubt there's much to alter.

Looking at that example, It looks like a lot of manipulation was preformed around his head. Could have removed tubes and such

Or maybe not

Basically, when you take a picture with a camera and save it as a jpeg, you save it at a determined compression rate. Most devices save it at a 90% compression rate, which generates a level of "errors" in the image. If you were to analize a picture right off your phone through this ELA, you'd get a almost all black image in return (save for spots where there's heavy color contrast like a white right next to a black; in this case it might show a faint white like you see in the outline of Chavez's daughters hairs) but if you were to paste a picture of a dinosaur on top of that image, the dinosaur image (which has a different resolution, compression level) will be highlighted in the LEA because it has a greater amount of errors than the rest of the image, thus signifying that it has been photoshop on top of it.

They claimed the newspaper they were reading was today's edition. Notice how the area of the newspaper looks highlighted. Also, he's supposedly undergone chemotherapy and shit, how is it that he still has hair? Makes me think these photos are old.
