A hunter attacked by a wounded grizzly in a Montana forest was killed not by the bear, but by a gunshot fired by a companion trying to save him, authorities said Friday. Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe said an autopsy determined 39-year-old Steve Stevenson of Winnemucca, Nev., died of a single gunshot to the chest. The cause of death was determined by a medical examiner with the Montana State Crime Lab. The shot was fired by 20-year-old Ty Bell, also of Winnemucca, as he attempted to stop the bear's attack. No charges are expected, Bowe said. The autopsy found bite marks on Stevenson's leg caused by the bear. "We're fairly convinced it was obviously an accident," Bowe said. "But the county attorney will review the final report once we're done."
link This is a perfect illustration of what happens when the 'rescuer' forgets that the number one priority is don't make things worse.
His friend couldn't bear the pain of losing a friend to a bear.
The perfect murder

that guy must feel like the guiltiest man ever :C
Steve Stevenson? What a plain name :v:
How the fuck do you miss a bear and hit the man it's mauling
How the fuck do you miss a bear and hit the man it's mauling
the bear could have been on top of him, and his friend was shooting at it from behind and it went through?
Its either the perfect murder or the saddest thing that man has done in his life.
the bear could have been on top of him, and his friend was shooting at it from behind and it went through?
I doubt it. He probably tried to make a quick shot.
How the fuck do you miss a bear and hit the man it's mauling
Aiming weapons isn't an exact thing. There are always plenty of external variables that could screw things up, as well as the possibility that the person aiming is shit with a gun.
Bear with me, because I have a tendency to mangle puns. Sometimes they get pretty grizzly. But this story is just plain ursinine.
Sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes you get shot in the chest by your hunting buddy.

They cant charge him. He tried to save his friend, and thats why we have the good samaritan law.
God damnit, who the fuck gave Cheney another gun?
I mean, if there is any kind of positive outcome to this, at least the guy didn't die slowly. Even if his buddy fucked up and missed, a quick shot to the chest still beats a slow mauling by a bear. The first thing I think of now is that mother who listened to her daughter being mauled by a bear, dying slowly and painfully.
I'd rather be killed by a bear, maybe more painful, but a cool story for your kids or family members to tell. Also cant imagine the nightmares his friend is going to have, damn...
I'd rather beat the bear to death with my fists. That'd be an even better story for kids or family members.
you cannot beat a grizzly bear to death with your fists and neither can anyone you know and neither can anyone you don't know
I'd much rather be shot in the head than eaten alive by a bear.
20 year old..too young. Probably scared shitless. I wouldn't have shot, but you also want to help your mate. Sounds like he used a pistol or something.
How hard can it be?
Here's another hunters vs bear story, hunter lives. Why? Cause not all bear attacks are fatal AND because his friend didn't shoot him to death. His friend used bear spray. link See it's not about me saying "Don't help someone, don't be a good samaritan" it's about saying "Don't make things worse, if you're going to help, do so correctly for the situation".
Reminded me of this joke (voted the funniest in the world) Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?". The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a gun shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says "OK, now what?"
Maybe not everyone carries bear spray with them everywhere they go.
They were going hunting. It's a pretty good investment to make.
How the fuck do you miss
Haha what, that's such an obvious answer. Really now? They're close together and things are moving fast, do the math.
How the fuck do you miss
I just I really can't get over this question.
you cannot beat a grizzly bear to death with your fists and neither can anyone you know and neither can anyone you don't know
Which is why it would make such a great story.
you cannot beat a grizzly bear to death with your fists and neither can anyone you know and neither can anyone you don't know
There's a reason why we have a right to bear arms. ... Been waiting awhile to say that one.
To be fair, he should feel a bit of satisfaction that he saved his friend from a much worse death. Id rather be put down by a rifle than be mauled to death by a bear. Glad he didnt get charged, if he didn't shoot the guy wouldn't have stood any chance.
