i think he's making fun of the fact that people compare this to super smash bros just a careful observation of mine
What is this, Smash Brothers?
I played it a little bit and I really disliked the scoring mechanic, where you build up to an ultimate move to take out opponents. I much prefer knocking people out of the arena like in Smash Brothers. Also, the combat just doesn't feel as good.

This thread has a title? What is this, Smash Bros?
I don't think people compare the actual game mechanics to smash bros. Most people just know that the idea is basically a ripoff. Hell, Sony even had smash bros as a tag in an official youtube video of it for a little bit. Take the characters from your famous video game series and make them fight each other. The actual mechanics are much different, but they remind me of some mediocre shrek fighting game I had on the gamecube. You did regular attacks and built up a meter until you could do a special attack that granted points. Whoever had the most points at the end of a round won.
I hate both mechanics equally. Is a life bar so damn hard to make? Smash Bros is also a rip-off then. I'm pretty sure X-Men vs. Street Fighter or something like that came first.
Smash Bros had an HP setting if you disliked the Damage%
I hate both mechanics equally. Is a life bar so damn hard to make?
life bar is boring and overdone
life bar is boring and overdone
life bars are generic
life bars are generic
life bars got drunk at a video game interface party and started acting like a tit so now everybody shuns them.
life bar is boring and overdone
It's such a basic and vital concept in games though. It would be like "walking is boring and overdone." in games. Yeah a helluva lot of games use it, but it's a very basic part of games.
It's used a lot because it's a solid mechanic and there isn't anything wrong with it. Innovation is fun but why attempt to fix something if it isn't anywhere near broken? Especially if you can't come up with a system that doesn't involve instakills such as ringouts and ultimate abilities.
you try and "fix" it because there might be a more fun way to do it. there are many games that i like the regen system more than having a straight life bar. it honestly depends on the game. im just saying that the life bar isnt necessarily a great mechanic. it's definitely uncreative which may or may not matter. it's old and done billions of times which may or may not matter.
