He was a true icon of the grunge era. Another piece of the 90s has passed.

Not to be a dick, but I wouldn't say unexpected. The guy has been in a downward spiral with drugs for years. Still extremely unfortunate and saddening though. As a huge fan of Scott in STP and Velvet Revolver his talent will be very missed.

Well that's in poor fucking taste.
Dude had a drug problem, but he was a great frontman, singer, and spent so much time with his career.
I was expecting this to be honest. There was a video of him a few months ago singing live, and he looked like shit, and his voice had been completely fucked up. Real sad though.

It's part of why they booted him out of STP, however i don't think fucking Chester Bennington is the better.

When he actually started to look better towards the end of Velvet Revolver, there was hope he'd get his shit together, but yeah, RIP. I can't say this was the most surprising thing to wake up to read today but at least he's at peace now.
Far too soon. Another great musician gone. Rest in peace.
Really? The guy had been addicted to opiates for a loooong time now. either way he made some good jams, rest in peace

I was unaware of that, so I didn't expect it. Simple as that.
well they need a new frontman too... cause Chester Bennington Left due to too many scheduling conflicts between Linkin Park and STP w CB.
I was looking forward to a time when Scott would reunite with STP and everything would be happy again.
I guess now he's the Layne Staley of our decade.
Wow I just started listening to them today, what the fuck
RIP
