On the 20th anniversary of Britpop, British people pick Oasis over Blur by two to one
In April 1994, following the death of Kurt Cobain and the American grunge scene with it, English radio DJ and music critic Stuart Maconie coined the phrase ‘Britpop’.
Shooting out of local cities and into a booming Britain, bands like Blur, Oasis and Pulp captured a new sense of optimism and national pride.
Now, 20 years on, YouGov revisits the rivalry that defined the times: who is better, Oasis or Blur?
Although at the height of Britpop the two camps were supposedly divided, 20% now say the two bands are equally good.
But Oasis are still twice as popular as Blur with those who pick a side: 29% say Oasis are better, while 14% say Blur are.
Among the Britpop generation (25-39 year olds), Oasis beats Blur by 36%-20%. More generally, 56% in this group like the genre and only 16% say they dislike it.
But in perhaps a happy resolution for those who lament the end of the years of ‘cool Britannia’, one third of people (32%) say music is as good now as Britpop was. 26% say music has been worse since, and 9% say it has actually been better.
or maybe... i said maybe... they both equally suck?

but in all seriousness Blur were best, no question.
blur were undoubtedly the more talented and interesting band but so much of their stuff is really hit and miss for me. there's a lot of shit in that discography that always felt to me like it was trying to be better than it is
where-as with oasis it's just undeniably good fun, at least for me. it's nothing interesting or special but it's mostly all catchy and energetic. there's plenty of tracks that are just the soundtrack to a generation, especially for me because i was brought up in and still live in manchester

that said noel stole/remixed/covered/sampled a fuck tonne of his riffs and chord progressions from loads of other rock and pop music so no wonder it all sounds good
Last time I've heard of Oasis was then one of their songs was the intro of Eden of the East Anime show.
Love Blur, love Damon, Blur is love. I dislike Oasis because of it's vocals, that's it.

Why don't you stand by me and say that, some might say you should stop crying your heart out half the world away and be here now so I can go supersonic and smash your head into the wonderwall. I swear to christ I'll make sure you don't live forever mate, they'll be hearin about it all around the world. You'll be thinking 'where did it all go wrong? if only i'd kept my big mouth shut'. You might think you're safe but my beady eye will find you, I'm like a high flying bird that can see anything.
You can try and hide in a country house or make the great escape under the westway but I've got girls and boys out looking for you. Hiding from me is like trying to hide from the debt collector - you aren't going to wear me down, I will chase you to the end. We've got a file on you, so your best days are behind you and your little parklife is about to fade away. You're out of time you charmless man, we're gonna set on you like a bunch of gorillaz.
Tl;dr I prefer Blur
Gorillaz was like blurs twin brother who was better at everything

But... but... they bullied Nardwuar.
Oasis gave us Wonderwall, the song my one friend always played on his guitar that he carried with him in high school to try and impress everyone. Fuck them.
I remember that question from back in the day "Blur or Oasis?", that and "rangers or celtic?" where how you were measured.

I go with Blur ofc, but Oasis has good songs too, like wonderwall.
Yeah I knew I was gonna end with funnies for saying that. Kinda.
I'd say they're equally good. Oasis certainly has a lot more popular material.
Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory are some strong albums, even when compared to Parklife.
Yet Blur kept the quality of their many albums constant, which is something that I can appreciate more.

but without wonderwall what song would us snarky college students play ironically?
Oasis hands down. Was brought up listening to my dad's Oasis tapes, seen them on their final tour at Murrayfield, absolutely glorious.

oasis was literally the most successful band on the planet at their peak so either you weren't alive then or you were living under a rock pretty much regardless of nationality
I prefer Blur. But my favourite song by Blur was Song 2, which apparently is a joke song they don't really like so I don't even know what to think.
Blur and Oasis are equal in my eyes except for the part where Damon Albarn didn't stop after Blur and created Gorillaz. Even his solo stuff is kinda nice.

The Verve is better than both
When I first heard Oasis, I thought they were trying to be a Merzbow rip-off.

No blur is still better
And oasis was my first concert so that's saying something
I don't really like them all that much but I don't really mind them either, just pretty neutral about oasis. Never even heard anything by blur though
Ever since Big Day Out, I have not liked blur much. They were meant to play at BDO, but pulled out at the last minute. In one of the interviews with the organiser, he was explaining that they had these massive stages (twice as big as previous years) because blur wanted them, so when they pulled out they had to keep them anyway because it was too late for other plans.
The organisers apparently only found out via the post Blur made on their facebook page too. Funnily enough, as a replacement, we got Deftones, someone else and Beady Eye (Oasis remnants) of all bands. Pearl Jam, the other headliner, was cool about it and said they'd play twice as long because of it.
tl;dr Blur were being dicks about something for a musical festival (probably about being a co-headliner to Pearl Jam)

Chances are you've heard "Song 2" by blur, at least.

Ah, I have, one of those songs that I've heard stuck into a lot of movies and such but never looked up
I used to often see people on various forums with avatars of Milky from the Coffee & TV video
