Only source for it right now is a thread on neogaf by Durante, creator of DSfix.
Hopefully it's because they plan on addressing the issues themselves.

Doesn't matter, still dumb.
it doesn't violate copyright and you know what? Maybe if you made FROM fix the fucking game, we wouldn't need it to run.
From the other thread that got created moments after this one:
The thread is so much fun though, they tracked the address of the lawyer and found out it was actually a bakery. No one really knows if the DMCA is real at the moment.

From the other thread that got created moments after this one:
the DMCA sounds so silly but considering the crap companies try to pull these days I wouldn't be surprised.
How can you file a DMCA takedown for a mod? You're not spreading the source material without the owner's consent, you're just making something to add to it.
It's.. odd that its from Germany considering Bandai Namco is Japanese.
From the other thread that got created moments after this one:
Just to clarify, someone put up the file on Nexus Mods and got a PM from someone identifying himself as a lawyer and asking for the removal of the file with fairly shoddy grammar. Someone then just checked the address and found that it was actually a bakery.
So there are doubts about whether the DMCA is genuine or just someone messing around.
This is on page 5 of the neogaf thread by the way.

Someone would need to email Bandai Namco i guess.
This is outright illegal. It boggles my mind how services like dropbox, youtube and whatnot keep putting up with this corporate bullshit without the minimum of respect for its users.
How am i infringing copyright by fixing a broken product? That's NONSENSE.
No big deal even if they follow through, dsfix won't ever die. It's not like it's contraband or illegal.
Hell I'll mirror it myself: Download for DSfix23.zip
Surely the DMCA allows for noncommercial derivative works?
Really sounds like it's just someone fucking around. I mean if it was real then why just now? DSFix has been around ever since Dark Souls was released on PC and there's no way Namco only just now found out about it.
Same kind of shit happens on Youtube with DMCA's being thrown around on legit shit by people/groups not affiliated with anyone involved.
Surely the DMCA allows for noncommercial derivative works?
How would this even be a derivative works? Isn't dsfix completely original code/content?
Surely the DMCA allows for noncommercial derivative works?
I am fairly sure they are freaking out about the Debug Mode thing, since it can be used to fuck up multiplayer games pretty bad, and the sooner they take down anything that could be related to it the more chance of stopping it spread. I don't think Bandai Namco has anything about a fix that makes the PC version playable.
pretty sure DSfix uses a hooked DLL to inject itself into the process, it's not distributing anything that namco or from or anyone else involved has rights to.
If DMCA can be abused like this, then I think we need to change DMCA or remove it in favor or something else.
I'm tired of seeing companies use DMCA as a form of censor or to take down things they don't like.

Good luck with that. You'd have better luck slapping the taste out of Satan's mouth in hell than ever getting companies to change or drop their crusades of legal matters over the most improbable things.

You.. You what?

Which taste am i slapping out? I need to know what I'm going up against here.
It's.. odd that its from Germany considering Bandai Namco is Japanese.
Ridicilous DMCA claims? It ALWAYS goes back to Germany.
This brings my blood to a boil. How many copies of Dark Souls on PC is Durante solely responsible for selling? Seriously, how fucking many? Because if DSfix wasn't a thing, I wouldn't have bought the PC version.

Some legal firm thought it was the debug.exe

This is why you don't let third parties handle your legal work that they have little to no understanding of. How many times have we seen this? How many times will we see this until big publishers get the hint that it only causes PR nightmare after PR nightmare?
If you don't know, the debug.exe leaked on Steam and it allows you to spawn bosses and play as them. There was a guy on twitch streaming as Artorias. It was pretty cool.
Well namco if you fixed the fucking game maybe I'd actually play it.

The taste of your own hand.
Yeah, it's that hard.
The creator of DSFix has already reuploaded it.

I think its a newer patch as well. DSFix 2.3.1
[editline]23rd December 2014[/editline]
Apparently the only change is a modified texture that could be considered infringing.
Doesn't use their code, not illegal.

It can't really, I think you can only directly connect by IP, there is an option to enable online but it expects servers that don't exist.

It's not a bakery, why are you skipping the other half of his post?
The adress.... lol. Google maps tells me that there is bakery.
Ah nevermind, there is McD, a fuel station and this FDS File Defense Service
