So I'll be going to the People's Republic of Kalifornia on the 15th, where I'll be meeting my biological father, brother and three sisters whom I have never met in person, and only been in contact with for little more than a year. As gifts I'm making them all knives, except for my Father who I will be making a walnut AR-15 grip to match that of my own as he recently built an AR-15 from a parts kit.

For my brother I'm going to give him my Khukri, some of you may remember this knife from a few years ago.
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/mPns5ce.jpg[/img_thumb]
For my youngest sister, a Buffalo knife with a polished antler grip and a brass guard. This one is about 95% done, all that's left is to glue the blade into the handle.
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/RZBxsNd.jpg[/img_thumb]
For my middle sister, a double edged dagger. This has been tempered and had the guard fitted, it only needs a grip and a pommel. The grip will be of ash and the pommel of brass.

For my oldest sister, a Seax. This will have an engraved oval steel guard, the grip will be of Lacewood with a steel pommel similar in shape to the guard. Grinding is still underway on this one, being such a long knife it takes awhile.

For my Stepmother, a knife similar to a bowie knife, though it will have a tapered point instead of the usual hooked shape. This one still needs to be ground and is fresh off the forge.

While I'm there, we're going to a gun range to test fire this .50 Flintlock pistol I've been working on. All that is left is to do a final sanding, apply the finish and insert the vent liner so it may be fired.

Lastly, the knife from Mission Impossible. This one was actually requested by a customer and is not a gift. The handle is made from solid 6061-T6 Aluminum, it's one of the alloys commonly used in aircraft and is pretty tough stuff. It still bears the heat coloring from being tempered, it only needs have the grips mounted and shaped.

That ar15 looks fucking cool
thats amazing. i couldnt see myself giving my family members guns and knives though :v:
You must have an awesome workshop or something
Is that flintlock from the kit you posted sometime last year? If so, that turned out beautifully. Is that a curly maple stock? I'm guessing the ramrod is still unfinished?
Great work on the knives too, love that dagger, but man I am a sucker for those muzzleloaders you make.
It might be, this is what I started out with:
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/BDnqXVn.jpg[/img_thumb]
It's not really a kit, it's just a collection of loose parts I picked out, except for the Sideplate which I made myself. The wood is just highly figured Black Walnut, it's a shotgun stock blank my Grandfather had, I got a couple of those and some rifle stock blanks as well.
There's a bit of a story behind the lock too, I was gonna use it to build a .32 caliber rifle with interchangeable barrels, so I could put a .50 barrel in there as well, but I decided I wanted to build a Wender rifle instead.
A Wender is a double barrel rifle, the barrels arranged vertically (Over and Under), the top barrel is fired, a lever is pushed and the barrels rotated so the bottom barrel which is still loaded and ready to fire is now on top. The lock on this sort of rifle requires a different type of Flintlock from the lock I used on this pistol, so I was going to build this pistol and then sell it, but later decided to keep it, I can always build a duplicator to copy the stock, which I intend to build eventually anyway.
I got stuff to build a Tanegashima now too, just need a barrel and stock. The barrel is going to be a .62 caliber 36" tapered octagon, and the stock will likely be cherry. The barrel will also need to be rebreeched as Tanegashimas had extra long breech plugs for some reason and it just doesn't look right with a short plug.
Do you still own that massive Snaphance musket? That one has to be my favorite of your creations so far, can't wait to see the Tanegashima, I'm not familiar with those.
The Super Matchlock, yes, I'll never get rid of that thing.

Finished the double edged dagger. It's pretty damn sharp too, hopefully I'll have time to make a scabbard for it, but I doubt it.

Beautiful, the blued steel complements the brass at the pommel.
Next two have been ground:

The Seax is probably my favorite so far.
come visit me raptor, you said you wouldddddd
Gonna get these done tomorrow. The Flintlock is about 99% done as well, I just need to sand it down one last time and put it all back together, pics after that is done.

I edge hardened the Seax so it's a Katana Seax now. Mainly because my oil bucket wasn't deep enough to quench it in, but also because it's a very thin, light weight knife so it seemed like a good idea.

That flintlock pistol is incredible
You should make a [URL="http://armor.com/images/lp/sgian01.jpg"]Long Skean[/URL] at some point, vicious little things
I'm probably gonna make another knife for myself soon, I got about 100 pounds of 5160 recently.
What I really wanna build is a power hammer though, then I can forge stuff without killing my shoulder in the process, which inevitably has me leaving marks on the knife and those take forever to grind off.
crudely carve "mjolnir" into the hammer when you make it

I love using these things and wish I had space for one.
Just got home from Kalifornia, got to meet everyone and give them their new toys.
