Colorado is on its way to becoming the first state to regulate and tax the sale of recreational marijuana, as a bill passed by lawmakers earlier this week is on the governor’s desk, awaiting signature.[/quote]

Why not make money off of it?
Stupid laggy double post -snip-
This is a very good turn to show that the legaslation of recreational marijuana is beneficable for the state.
And that is the story of how Colorado became the wealthiest state in the nation.
He. Broke. Automerge.

on topic: It still goes against federal laws so this will be a tricky court battle

Hasn't the federal government said that it will respect the state's decisions to legalize cannabis and not enforce federal law there?
I swear I remember Obama giving a speech about it when WA and CO first legalized.
Anyway I know where I'm going on my next road trip.
Me and my family are taking a trip out west this summer for about a month(mostly to see the state of California), but on the way back we're stopping in Colorado to visit my sister for about a week. In other words, it should be an excellent week.

They said they wouldn't go after "users".
It's like Danny Greene said
i wonder if the taxes will be as dumb(or dumber?!) than the way washington is gonna tax it.

i'm fully expecting the taxes to be fucking ridiculous at first, but baby steps. as long as this pulls in a sizable profit for the state we'll have undeniable evidence showing the benefits of marijuana legislation
I'm wondering if this will cause a chain reaction. Say Colorado gets a lot of cash, then other states might want to get cash also.
I knew we (Colorado) would beat washington to this because that's ALL they fucking talk about on the news. I'm glad too, because why not make free money to the state? Just in Fort Collins alone there's more potheads than you can shake a stick at :D
And now we can see if this argument actually holds any water.

our referendum made it so it is impossible for us to have any marijuana sales before something like november 12.
it wouldn't be hard to beat us, no offence.

Fort Collins? What about Boulder? You can't walk five steps without smelling weed.
You should need a licence to buy weed. Some people cannot handle it and resort to stealing and shit to fuel their addiction.

you do need a license to buy weed. the license is given when you are 21(in washington at least)
Really hope California follows soon. This state is so broke our bridges are made out of breadsticks.

Just wondering, it's just your drivers license right? It'd be crazy if you'd need something more.

anything that is issued by the state that has your picture and a dob on it.

AFAIK Federal agents might still take action, BUT it's not part of their "job schedule"
So the risk is still there, but minimal.

possibly sporadic raids so the dea looks like it's doing its job but not a full-on crackdown.
The official stance is that the federal government is only going after "illegal" grow operations. They aren't interested in getting into a states rights battle court case over it.
