Most of these countries don't have an alliance with the United States, but three - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia - are members of NATO. As members of NATO the United States, along with Britain, France, Germany and other countries, would be bound to intervene and protect them against any outside threat. NATO has already begun to deploy extra forces in the three Baltic states.
Poor Latvia.
I think the response to this survey closely correlates to "have you ever heard about this country before?"
I think the response to this survey closely correlates to "have you ever heard about this country before?"
They should have put a made-up country in there to check
I'm not at all surprised. It's impossible to classify how war weary the American public is.
That's sad, I mean I know after all the nonsense America's been through they're tired of it but your allies being attacked is really serious
I don't really blame them. It'll be another bodybag brawl over a bit of land that the population themselves seem to be a little 'Eh'.
Good thing all of them but Ukraine are NATO members.
At least Poland can rest assured that more Americans said yes than no for helping them.
They should have put a made-up country in there to check
Studies show that 20% of Americans would support military intervention, should Russia invade Octavia.
Poor Latvia.
No blood for potatoes.
When has the US ever really supported stepping into a war in Europe?
The researches should have included Russia in that poll just to see if participants were paying attention
At least Poland can rest assured that more Americans said yes than no for helping them.
probably some 10% or 20% is due to a reflex response from highschool education about ww2.
When has the US ever really supported stepping into a war in Europe?
You mean other than the entirety of the Cold War, where everything about US military doctrine was just waiting for Soviet tanks to come streaming across the Balkans?
You mean other than the entirety of the Cold War, where everything about US military doctrine was just waiting for Soviet tanks to come streaming across the Balkans?
I was mostly referring to the World Wars, but I see your point. However, getting involved in wars was never a popular thing with the US during the Cold War era (really any country I suppose). Just look at Korea and Vietnam. I don't know much about the US Cold War doctrine in Europe, but I don't think it involved anything more than a defensive measure from attack, which therefore would be justifiable.

*Snip Hmph I could've worded it better
Or the fact that Germany was hitting American shipping...
Good. Maybe this means Americans are finally losing their insatiable, reactionary bloodlust.
Good. Maybe this means Americans are finally losing their insatiable, reactionary bloodlust.
Yeah you're right whenever I see someone do anything that bothers me I'm already unlocking my gunsafe to go to war with them. Boy am I glad that's going away!
America didn't want to join that war at all. IIRC the US originally didn't want to get involved in any of the world wars.
We defend Europe because it's the buffer between us and the Russian bear. Considering the bear has been hibernating for a decade or two, a lot of Americans want to forget about it being a threat. They also don't want to return to the Cold War days.
Why is it Americans only support wars that basically amount to corporate profiteering, and not actual defending of weaker countries Oh wait I think I just answered my own question
until they surprise-attack Anchorage.
When has the US ever really supported stepping into a war in Europe?
Before the US entered WWII, there was a Nazi movement in the US that got pretty big that wanted the US to enter the war on Germany's side. There would be huge profits to be made there. Don't act like the US invades places because of HURR BLOOD FER OIL or as if the US populace is pro-corporate warfare.
Why is it Americans only support wars that basically amount to corporate profiteering, and not actual defending of weaker countries Oh wait I think I just answered my own question
People supported going into Afghanistan because 9/11 sent every one of us into a collective, foaming-at-the-mouth rage. Corporate interest had nothing to do with it.
People supported going into Afghanistan because 9/11 sent every one of us into a collective, foaming-at-the-mouth rage. Corporate interest had nothing to do with it.
Alright, I guess that does make more sense.
They should have put a made-up country in there to check
I would have voted yes for Cobrastan
lol, if the US [del]invaded[/del] the Ukraine, it could own the passageway that Russia floods Europe with natural gas with. There would be huge profits to be made there.
Not really anymore, there's a massive pipeline that takes Russian gas over the seafloor. These days Ukraine is only used because the infrastructure is already there and because it's convenient.
