MH17: Ukraine separatist commander admits rebels had Buk missile system
81 replies, posted
A top rebel commander in eastern Ukraine has admitted the armed separatist movement had control of a Buk missile system, which Kiev and western countries say was used to shoot down a Malaysia Airlines plane last week.
Alexander Khodakovsky, who leads the Vostok battalion – one of the main rebel formations – said the rebels may have received the Buk from Russia, in the first such admission by a senior separatist.
"That Buk I know about. I heard about it. I think they sent it back. Because I found out about it at exactly the moment that I found out that this tragedy had taken place. They probably sent it back in order to remove proof of its presence," Khodakovsky told Reuters.
As two further Ukrainian fighter jets were shot down, apparently by missiles fired from within Russia, Khodakovsky appeared to imply that MH17 was indeed downed by a missile from the Buk. He blamed Ukrainian authorities, however, for allowing civilian jets to fly over its airspace when the rebels had such capabilities.

Shocking. Who would have suspected this?
Shocking. Who would have suspected this?
Not Conscript, mdeceiver79 and Karimatrix.
I really want to know why he feels compelled to tell the media now.
but every one knew that? There was simply no admission before
-snip for now-
People will still deny that the separatists did this

Basically he claims he said nothing like this to reuters and he have recording of interview to proof that.
Or you guys seriusly believe someone out of Rebel command would give interview that disproofs their version of events at this point?
After it got backed by Russian Defence ministry?
If you do then i expect you going to suddenly say this guy is "Real Human and Respected person".

Hmm. I was getting worried reading the Guardian article that it never specified who and when he talked to the press.
I'll wait.

Interesting how you so quickly pulled out a russian news site claiming this when nobody else does.
As earlier mentioned, it seems a bit odd a top level rebel leader would admit to this right now, after their complete backtracking of it. I suspect there will be more revealed in the next few weeks, because right now, they're admitting to it, and even if it is obvious to civilians, politicians, armies and so forth need 100% proof of a event before they take action, which they have basically given now.

Cause RIA is fast and that's why it's good? Not ot mention that i heard of this only jsut now from fp, soo i looked up on news source and here you go.
And again, i am calling for your logic - why would high rebel commander give such interview to a foreign journalist?!
And Guardian themselfs reported this

The same reason all rebels/terrorists give interviews to journalists - to claim their hand in such an event, or (very rarely) to apologize for making a mistake.
Interesting how you so quickly pulled out a russian news site claiming this when nobody else does.
To be honest, there are mountains of accusations by both sides without a lot of hard facts. I think Russia is getting it's boot deep into bear shit as much as anyone, but I'm just looking forward to a UN-backed report on the plane.

You think the guardian is lying, how do you know RIA isn't? Especially since they are so fast they could just be making stuff up

Sure, but we're basing that on a journalists report who wants a meaty story. If he doesn't release that so called tape, then he's screwed.

Are there any NON russian sources on this?

Here ya go peeps, from Guardian themselfs

Russian media reports that Alexander Khodakovsky, the rebel leader who admitted to Reuters that separatists had a Buk missile system, now denies any such statement. Life News, a Russian outlet with close ties to rebels, quotes Khodakovsky as saying "The militia don't have and never had a Buk system."

State-owned RIA Novosti quotes a "source close to the commander" .
"I didn't say anything like that to Reuters, and I have a recording of the conversation, Khodakovsky's spokesperson quoted him as saying.
RIA Novosti concludes the article with background on "what is happening in Ukraine and Novorossiya", or "New Russia". The historical term, used during Russia's imperial epoch, does not denote any recognized national or regional boundaries.
I'd say this just came out because atleast one of two people in that interview were idiot. You are free to pick your.
Are there any NON russian sources on this?
of course not because if it isn't RIA or RT then it obviously isn't true and is just anti-Russian.
Not Conscript, mdeceiver79 and Karimatrix.
Go ahead and quote me saying they didn't have one.
Infact I have said several times that I suspect it was the rebels by mistake. My issue is with people jumping to conclusions about the whole thing and using it as a weapon rather than a lesson.
The entire thing isn't being used as a "all armies much positively identify before shooting" its being used as a "russian's are inheritly evil and the only way to stopping this from happening is by ruining their economy"
I also take issue with peoples willingness of using twitter, youtube "leaks" and out of context photos as evidence. Time and time again they are used and proved fake yet people still put trust in them. Remember the Kiev riots? The maiden twitter posting a picture of a Russian MDV badge claiming Russian troops were taking part, utter lies and misinformation used to trick people into supporting their cause. People are totally oblivious to the dangers of trusting such "sources", personally I put it down to them wanting it to be true rather than being objective and looking at the actual facts.
Thanks for not reading a word I have said though, it really demonstrates the amount of thought put into your posts.

Says the guy projecting views on me and who stalks and rates all my posts, lol.
You're just looking for a snipe after I argued against your bullshit. It has something to do with separatism and it looks bad so I deserve a mention about how I didn't expect it. I'm honored<3

You missed a key part
Russian media reports that Alexander Khodakovsky, the rebel leader who admitted to Reuters that separatists had a Buk missile system, now denies any such statement. he NOW denies any such statement.
Not he denied any such statement, he now denies any such statement.
As far as I can tell the Guardian aren't backtracking. They are essentially saying that the separatist is backtracking.
of course not because if it isn't RIA or RT then it obviously isn't true and is just anti-Russian.
I just gave you direct info from guardian themselfs.

All he has to do is release his own recording, mystery solved. Why didn't he just give it to them if they've all been contacting him?
You missed a key part
he NOW denies any such statement.
Not he denied any such statement, he now denies any such statement.
Oh my god please don't go that path, oufcourse they wil write it this way, they are not suicidal ffs. Remember when i posted about interview with Ukranian Prime Prosecutor stating that rebels never possesed any Buks, right after crash? Gues what, he denies that too now.
You missed a key part
he NOW denies any such statement
Being Devil's Advocate here, that really means nothing more than semantics for the journalist. He's simply saying he denies it, so 'NOW' it's a different story.
All he has to do is release his own recording, mystery solved. Why didn't he just give it to them if they've all been contacting him?
I hope he will soon enough.

I am afraid it's doubtful that it's semantics now that they have posted another addition
A rebel commander admitted separatist forces had a Buk missile system of the kind believed to have shot down MH17. Alexander Khodakovsky, of the Vostok Battalion, hinted strongly that the anti-aircraft weaponry came from an outside power in an interview with Reuters, but then later went on Russian television and denied the report.
