• My school went full retard ever since the Sandy Hook shooting

Recently, since the Connecticut school shooting, my highschool has become more and more retarded with security. At first, it wasn't so bad, we only needed to use our school id's to unlock the doors, but now they've gone off the deep end. My fucking highschool put alarms on every door besides the main entrance that trigger when you open them from both the inside and outside. Anybody caught using these doors could face suspension. This is not an exaggeration at all. Unfortunately I'm being completely 100% serious. We have an open-campus policy, yet this fucking retarded shit happens. We live in the most crime-free area where everyone is rich and has huge beautiful houses where theres only like 20 stoners in a school full of 1000 kids. Our football team never wins because everybody is so small and weak. We already have a retarded "anti-bullying" policy that gives overly harsh punishments for insulting someone. I've officially given up on my town. We are the roots of the pussification of america. The kids here are so sheltered it's not even funny.
Honestly whenever shit like this happens, literally my first thought is "oh fuck i hope my college doesn't use this as the excuse to ban nerf guns." [editline]21st February 2013[/editline] Also, my college has unmarked, unalarmed, completely impossible to find "emergency doors." Using one of those doors, which is impossible to identify, is a $500 fine.
oh hey, that alarm stuff, yea, my school did it too. It just went into effect monday. [t]http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/487713_10200666331129625_747369187_n.jpg[/t]
My school wants to be that. The admins at least. We still have only one half-asleep security guard, people smoking weed in the bathroom and a couple kids getting arrested for arson. Our football team's 0-8 by the way. Sucks for you man, and I'm not saying that in a mean way.
Holy shit the same shit went into effect in my school just today. Shit's retarded. [editline]20th February 2013[/editline] this post made me realize how much I say shit
You guys have 'public safety officers' that report to cops? That's pathetic. Do you guys even have campus security? My old HS always had some cop or a security guard with a sidearm or a rifle just walking around enforcing dress codes.
get in line
At my school, ever since the Sandy Hook event, you can't leave in the middle of class to "make kids feel safer." IF ANYTHING IT MAKES KIDS FEEL EVEN LESS SAFE

[editline]20th February 2013[/editline] this post made me realize how much I say shit
Dude we go to the same school as this guy. OP I was fucking there with you when those police officers came. EDIT: atleast i think. This is strikingly similar to what happened at my school.
Our town is so fucking peaceful three cop cars showed up just to tell us not to litter.
ahahaha gotta love american suburbia.

They're called School Resource Officers. Trust me.
Ah yes, the "pussification" of America as the OP so eloquently put it. Where there exists emergency exits and building security. You know, like most major public locations. What a horrible life Face Melter must live.
Ah yes, the "pussification" of America as the OP so eloquently put it. Where there exists emergency exits and building security. You know, like most major public locations. What a horrible life Face Melter must live.
putting alarms on the side doors is a bit much tbh.
putting alarms on the side doors is a bit much tbh.
Have you ever been to a retail store larger than a bedroom
I was watching a guest speaker give a lecture on the JFK assassination (his name was Dr. Pete) and the other teacher left class, and came back with the same type of rifle used to kill JFK. He stood in the back of the room and cocked it to get everyone's attention, scared me shitless. The hammer was removed, it was only trigger and bolt mechanism. So yeah, my school hasn't really given a fuck.
Have you ever been to a retail store larger than a bedroom
a retail store is not a school [editline]21st February 2013[/editline] and i doubt these are fire exits either. from the way he put it, it looks like they just took the doors and wired alarms to it.
a retail store is not a school
Or a mall or a restaurant or a convenience store or a library?
Or a mall or a restaurant or a convenience store or a library?
who cares? these are not schools. and this problem would be more easily solved by just making it so you have to swipe your card at the side entrances too.
who cares? these are not schools. and this problem would be more easily solved by just making it so you have to swipe your card at the side entrances too.
Schools are obviously exempt from normal building functions every other building has got it [editline]20th February 2013[/editline] I don't think you understand the concept of an emergency exit
Schools are obviously exempt from normal building functions every other building has got it
that's pretty much your assertion.
Schools are obviously exempt from normal building functions every other building has got it [editline]20th February 2013[/editline] I don't think you understand the concept of an emergency exit
Except these arent emergency exits, they're doors that were once used everyday normally.
Schools are obviously exempt from normal building functions every other building has got it [editline]20th February 2013[/editline] I don't think you understand the concept of an emergency exit
An emergency exit in a store is usually to allow quick exit capability in the case of emergency, while putting the alarm on it deters the use of the exit for using to shoplift goods. The only doors that need to be unlocked in a business are monitored doors, the side door of a school does not constitute a emergency exit, it is commonly used as a convenient entrance and exit. They should have used a break in alarm, and used a standard remote lock during class hours. But the moment someone pulls the fire alarm, or the power is lost it is unlocked. There, same safety, less hassle.
My school just did lockdown drills, they don't give two fucks about it
I go to school half an hour away from where the shooting occurred and that shit's not happening here.
Except these arent emergency exits, they're doors that were once used everyday normally.
They're certainly emergency exits now
I go to school half an hour away from where the shooting occurred and that shit's not happening here.
well i mean its not like living closer to where a tragedy occured increases your odds of it happening to you or something [editline]21st February 2013[/editline] and if my school decides to turn side doors into emergency exits, i sure as hell hope that taking the short route outside to my car constitutes an emergency
One shooting in one school in one state in one country is pretty small Schools are just paranoid as shit Yes, one shooting in one school, totally an excuse for schools worldwide to assume they're next
One shooting in one school in one state in one country is pretty small Schools are just paranoid as shit Yes, one shooting in one school, totally an excuse for schools worldwide to assume they're next
Why does anyone prepare for emergencies at all? Emergencies are, by definition, outside the norm.
Why does anyone prepare for emergencies at all? Emergencies are, by definition, outside the norm.
Because emergencies do happen. Just that there are many more emergencies that are a lot more common that are being ignored
Since Sandy Hook, people at my school have had a real hardon for calling in fake bomb threats. It was mainly last month, one shining example was a kid high on marijuana dropped a note in the hallway, circled around, picked it up, and attempted to turn it in and claim a tip reward. Unfortunately, since the start of the school year there have been like millions of security cameras everywhere and he was arrested on the spot and expelled (not on the spot). There were another like 9 bomb threats in december in the total school district. We had just gotten the use of all the schools restrooms back like last week (before there was only one boy's and one girls' restroom and we had to be signed in by a staff member) and the next day someone scribbled a bomb threat on a girls' bathroom stall because they didnt want to go to a pep rally or something. Now we are restricted to one bathroom again, with even tighter security measures than before.
