Mayor Rob Ford really is in rehab, CBC reported Friday night.
The public broadcaster was granted access to a supervising doctor at the rehab facility, who confirmed Ford is currently a patient in a residential treatment program for substance abuse.
According to the report, the mayor arrived at the facility on May 1 and has been an in-patient ever since. Ford did leave the facility Saturday, however, after a medical exam. He was taken to hospital and admitted for four days before returning to the treatment facility on Wednesday.
Ford continued to receive treatment while in hospital, according to the report.
The CBC says they were allowed to speak with the doctor on condition they not release the location of the facility.
The report comes after a week of speculation about whether or not Ford was actually getting treatment for alcohol and substance abuse, and amid several apparent sightings of the mayor around the GTA and southern Ontario, including at a Junction-area Tim Hortons.
Since then, Tim Hortons took the rare step to confirm, using security footage, that it was actually Doug and not Rob spotted at the coffee and donut shop.
“Mayor Rob Ford has been under medical care 24-7 from the time he arrived in Canada, from Chicago, and he’s been getting treatment,” his brother Councillor Doug Ford told the broadcaster.
Rob Ford was originally believed to have gone to Chicago on a private jet last week after announcing he would take a leave of absence, but reportedly turned back at the Midway International airport.
When asked repeatedly this week where his brother was seeking treatment, Doug Ford said he was “nowhere close to the GTA.”
Councillor Ford said he hopes media organizations and paparazzi will stop trying to spot Ford now that his stay in rehab has been confirmed. He also said he hopes people respect the privacy of his brother and other patients at the treatment facility.
With the mayor absent from city hall this week, and Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly assuming all of his roles, Doug Ford has been left answering for his brother’s actions — and his commitment to getting better.
Rob Ford’s criminal lawyer and family friend Dennis Morris has told the Star that Ford is at in-patient treatment “24-7” but neither he nor the Ford family would confirm where.
Wouldn't that be a breach of patient/doctor confidentiality?
Wouldn't that be a breach of patient/doctor confidentiality?
He had publicly said he was taking a "leave of absence" (but not resigning) from his non-duties as Mayor in name to enter rehab. Considering his long record of lying about his drug problems and what he didn't do about them, people thought this was yet another lie, especially after apparent sightings of Rob around the Toronto area (turns out it was Doug Ford at least once).
The Toronto Star ran two editorials about Rob's rehab, one day after another, starting with saying Rob was not taking his rehab seriously, and then moving to "We need proof Rob is actually in rehab at all, he's lied too many times for us to take his word."
Having a doctor say, "no, he actually is in rehab" is about the lightest violation of patient-doctor confidentiality, especially considering the international news figure Mayor Bumblefuck has made himself into with his shenanigans.
In regards to patient confidentiality- it doesn't exactly matter to what "degree" it was.
If there's a complaint and the offense is proven the doctor can have his license to practice suspended.
No sane doctor is going to come out and confirm the guy is in rehab.
