We’re now testing a smart contact lens that’s built to measure glucose levels in tears using a tiny wireless chip and miniaturized glucose sensor that are embedded between two layers of soft contact lens material. We’re testing prototypes that can generate a reading once per second. We’re also investigating the potential for this to serve as an early warning for the wearer, so we’re exploring integrating tiny LED lights that could light up to indicate that glucose levels have crossed above or below certain thresholds. It’s still early days for this technology, but we’ve completed multiple clinical research studies which are helping to refine our prototype. We hope this could someday lead to a new way for people with diabetes to manage their disease.
I've known a few diabetics, and this would be fantastic. Hope it turns out well!
Diabetic and with bad sight, that's a genetic loadout I wouldn't be jealous of.
Yeah but how can we use this technology to make me look fabulous

I'm sorry, but that'll take a few millenias

You? Well, I'm sorry but there is only so much science can do - and science can do a lot.

Eh, it honestly isn't that terrible, it more comes down to how well you form habits. For example, if you are responsible and brush your teeth everyday, it is about on the same level as that.
I mean checking my blood sugar and managing it are now pretty much second nature to myself because I merely got into a habit for it. My blood sugar average is 135, which is about average for a young adult, though as I get older I will want to make it more precise at 120.
Basically if you know how to take care of yourself, it is just another thing to add to the list of daily habits. I live pretty much a perfectly normal life. For the bad eyes I just have glasses.

I've been a type 1 diabetic for six and a half years and by this point my bigger annoyance with having it is people being ignorant.
If I had a dollar for every time they confused the two types/brought up body weight in some form, I would be able to buy the contact lens this story describes.

Dont quote me on it but:
I think the bad sight is a result of having diabetes, something to do with the high glucose concentration warping the shape of your lenses.

Diabetes leads to bad eye sight

Can it at least heal these burns?
I'm Diabetic, and have a poor eyesight, thanks google.

Yeah but you may wanna keep them as an excuse to cover up your face...
I want one but I don't have diabetes, time to order some Little Debbie snacks in bulk.
I have diabetes type one, and if it works as they say, then I'd gladly pay a lot of $ for this little contraption.
(Unless ofcourse they make me sign up to google+.. That's a dealbreaker..) :v:
