Yes indeed, I go overseas to kill other men, and when I come back, I beat my wife. Just man things
Yes indeed, I go overseas to kill other men, and when I come back, I beat my wife. Just man things
He's referring more to the stereotypical "red neck" male culture -- which to be fair was a lot more harsh than it was today.
the uploader is a real character
My dear knuckle-dragging, keyboard-warrior, alpha-male monkey friends: Any more comments spewing woman-hate and/or crying about misandry or gynarchy will not be tolerated on my feeds. You will be blocked and your bullshit comments deleted. No amount of whining will change this. It is MY thread. There are whole forums dedicated to your 'perspective'. At the end of the day, it straight up pleases me to deprive you of the megaphone you feel so entitled to. The role-reversal from what usually happens online is too priceless for me to pass up. I also enjoy the poorly articulated, terrible guesswork involved in the feeble attempts at personal vernacular insults intended to attack my manhood. So by all means, type all of the privileged, noxious, butthurt rage you like. Nobody else will hear you. Thanks for playing.
the funny thing is is that the most angry person in the comments section is the uploader themself
He's referring more to the stereotypical "red neck" male culture -- which to be fair was a lot more harsh than it was today.
I have not heard anything referring to "redneck male culture", just a generalization of all men and women
i want my 15 minutes back
I have never got George Carlin. His observations just are not that funny too me.
I have never got George Carlin. His observations just are not that funny too me.
His views on climate change and plastic pollution seemed fucking awful to me
I love one of the pieces of statistics used in the video. > 80% of war victims is women and children. What a surprise if you take 50% of the population and then add another demographic that is gender neutral women will become disproportionately effected by war! Might as well have picked women and left handed people and then said look "women and left handed people are disproportionately the victims of war!"
I have not heard anything referring to "redneck male culture", just a generalization of all men and women
It is the fore-front male culture in the South -- what he said is the same as what it means to man here from my observations.
His views on climate change and plastic pollution seemed fucking awful to me
Elaborate
Elaborate
Basically it boiled down to the planet is fine because, in the grand scheme of things, we haven't been around all that long and we've only polluted for a few hundred years but the earth has been around for billions of years and it'll be around long after we die. [editline]2nd March 2016[/editline] He goes on about it at length here, although I'm not entirely sure how much of it was exaggerated for his stand-up. Plus, it was the early nineties when he said this and I'm not sure what information was available or common knowledge at the time. And to be fair, a lot of stuff George Carlin said was exaggeration. I think he mentioned it in an interview if he actually believed most of the things he said, he probably would've killed himself long ago.

Well he's not entirely wrong, whatever happens to the planet in terms of climate change doesn't really matter to the planet as a whole, since life will find a way to flourish no matter the conditions, it's just humanity that's got to worry really. Yeah it was a little exaggerated although he did become a lot more cynical and jaded about humanity in his later years, in which his humor got a lot more dark and cynical too, that's why he said the things he said in regards to climate change, it's like dark humor in a way.

Maybe the earth needed plastic, didnt know how to get it so it made humans. A new earth plastic paradigm. Carlin is my favorite
Life will find a way sure, but humans are not the only ones getting fucked.
Of course not, and the dinosaurs were not the only species that got fucked when an asteroid (or whatever it was) wiped them all out during that specific extinction event. And yeah humans are the ones causing this new extinction cycle but that's really just how life is, new creatures will arise and eventually a different species will dominate the planet, cynical as all hell but he found it a joke worthy topic.
Yeah well we have the ability to realise how fucking dumb we are and minimize our shittiness
Oh of course, unfortunately the greedy corporations that are the main contributers to this mess have so much power it's almost impossible to get anything done about it.
Christ, his routine is not meant as a series of literal arguments to support his opinion. He's playing a character, a stage persona. The whole point of Carlin's style of comedy is that he takes a subject people are very opinionated on and takes it to a different extreme. Back then, people weren't in constant open discussion on each and every aspect of Life, culture or politics with everyone and their dog having a platform and a chance at an audience to the point where you just got so fucking tired of it, that you got tired of being tired of it all the time. Today the way he reacts seems natural, obvious and old, but back then it was something you could get a real kick out of. The Idea of the environment routine is that all the opinionated crap he says is rendered irrelevant by the overwhelming fatal implications of the subject as a whole, regardless of what side you choose or any argument you bring to the discussion. The point is not the subject, but the discussion of the subject at the time. Today, most of Carlin's routines don't work that well as comedy anymore, the context is all wrong and people mostly scratch their heads or completely misunderstand him. It's a case of 'trust me, he was really funny at the time'
This is IMO the funniest thing Carlin ever did:

The problem with George Carlin's jokes nowadays is that his views are not extreme anymore, all of the jokes he makes are now actual opinions held by people so it doesn't seem like he's making a joke. For example, with that video that MintyMginty posted, I'm pretty sure all those satirical headlines are all actual Buzzfeed articles. It's possible in a few years the "Join the Book Club" routine won't be funny anymore because it simply describes stuff that already exists. Your reaction will change from "haha, this is a satirical and cynical social commentary" to "Oh yes, I know what this is, what of it?". It stops being satirical once it starts becoming reality. The same thing has happened with pretty much everything else he joked about. People who watch his videos now don't understand him, they just think he's being sincere and not exaggerating for the purpose of social satire (even though if he was being sincere, it wouldn't be comedy).
Why the fuck are you analyzing his bit like a political speech again?
There's old gold and then there is old gold I've noticed that people quote who Carlin suck at arguing their own opinions so they jump to someone elses as if they're the absolute peak of all reason. Literally the moment anyone has to use the Carlin defense, they should be banned. his ideas are outdated and don't have any relevance today, and aren't meant to be literal political views but instead what it is, a joke that's meant to be funny.
lol the topic change in this thread
George Carlin Exaggerates a lot. It's satire.
