The above picture made me giggle, which caused bloody drool to splat my monitor.
I just had the pleasure of experiencing the best dental care the army has to offer- which is just as unpleasant as any other dental work I've received. I sit here drooling blood, unable to speak because of the totally wicked numbing agent they injected in eight different parts of my mouth. I've a towel in my lap to catch any unnoticed blood-drool.
Story begins as such: The Army is a dick. They generously ordered me to get my wisdom teeth yanked out on their buck so they could eventually shuffle me off to some unpleasant desert hellhole. I argued that cavemen didn't remove their wisdom teeth, and that you never heard them complaining. The first sergeant rebutted with a very strong counterargument, informing me that they died young due to mouth infections.
I woke myself up at 0530 and prepared to face the day by complaining loudly to my roommate until he left- leaving me time to sulk before the appointment. When I got to the dental clinic, the very nice nurse lady took my blood pressure, and didn't even get angry when I informed her that she was totally ruining my morning. She even offered to let me listen to Christian rap music from her iPod, so that I could try to grind out the horrible noises their tools were sure to make inside my head. I kindly declined, because I'm too tough for Christian rap.
Doc comes in and gives me more bad news- my wisdom teeth are under a shit ton of gum, and they're gonna have to cut those fuckers out. I ask him for silly-gas, instead he gives me an assload of needle straight to the gums. Stung a bit, but whatever they put in me quickly took effect. I replaced friendly conversation with the nice nurselady with steady, uncontrolled drooling. I tried to apologize for drooling so much, but that just made me drool some more.
For the next thirty minutes I listened as horrible grindy, crunchy, splatty noises blew up inside my head. I didn't feel a thing, but the doctor was kind enough to keep me updated on his progress with demoralizing quips about how much fleshy pulp he was extracting or displacing to get to my "big sonofabitch tooth." The nice nurselady assisted by vacuuming the blood out of my mouth with an opaque vacuum tube (which quickly became a chunky-looking pinkish color). I was a bit surprised when he finished. I really didn't feel all that much, aside from the initial needle pricks and some uncomfortable pressure.
On the way out I embarrassed myself by drooling blood all over my pharmaceutical forms.
This basically sucks. Got any good tips on this shit? They put me on quarters for a few days, and I need to send somebody out for some food.
My wisdom teeth are coming in almost perfectly straight and my dentist actually told me I should KEEP them, because the wisdom teeth are actually realigning my teeth in a way that it will close off some large gaps and actually straighten them. I got off really lucky.
Also you don't need any "tips", the procedure is over and now just pretend you are Chewbacca and gurgle alot.
Take pain meds, smoke pot, all is well.
Eat on one side of your mouth. Don't smoke, drink alcohol, or cause pressure in your mouth (ie, sucking, swallowing too hard. It's easier to swallow when your mouth isn't numb). You can smoke and drink after 48 hours, but i'd leave it till later, seeing as it slows the healing. For the first day, eat cold, soft food. DON'T EAT HOT FOOD, it'll dissolve the clot. After that, keep eating soft food, such as mashed potatoes, yoghurt, soup (you'll be living off this shit, it's so much easier to eat and it doesn't get stuck in the hole).
After the first day (24 hours), gently(!) rinse your mouth out with warm salty water after you eat (basically tilt your head, no swishing, keep it gentle. Also, let it sit in your mouth for a bit to do its work, don't swill it round once then spit out), and before you sleep. This kills any bacteria, which in turn helps speed up the healing process. After the second day (48 hours) return to your normal brushing routine. You shouldn't be using toothpaste for the first 3-4 days. Just the brush and water. That's it.
That's all you need to know really. It's a pain in the ass. Not sure how long it takes to heal, seeing as wisdom teeth are huge, but for normal, small teeth (count five from the center of your mouth, it's that small one) take about 7 days to be able to eat somewhat normally.
Wisdom teeth will be the least of your worries once you're getting shot at
That sucks.
Hang on for a second, I just saw this on FPSB at the same time. Very strange Coincidence

When the shitty injections wear off prepare for a cockton of pain, you'll be bleeding for almost a week too. One thing I noticed about the injections is that they contained Epinephrine, why I don't fucking know, but it made me shake like a bitch and rose my blood pressure which made my bleeding worse.
IN CONCLUSION you better have a fucking prescription for oxycodone or some shit
my upper wisdom teeth came out straight, but i don't know about my lower jaw teeth, is there supposed to be a long delay before they start to grow, because i had my upper wisdom teeth for a year or so now
Gargle hot salt water twice a day.
so uh.. how's your mouth feeling, big guy.
They knocked me out when they removed mine. They then said I woke up and recovered the quickest out of anyone else.
The drugs (hydrocodone) I got after were awesome.
Was the nurse hot?
my dentist will have to remove my wisdom teeth. oh fuck thats going to suck.
I had one of my wisdom teeth pulled few weeks ago, worst part about the operation was the sound...my tooth was a pretty bad one too so it required surgical removal and chopping it into pieces with the drill. I couldn't eat for a few days because of the pain.
Just take your pillz and it'll be cool. After four-five days you won't even notice it anymore.
I'm all tripped out on Vicoden, so I'm rollin' easy right now. The numbing stuff they put in has started to wear off, and I've got a rather unpleasant ache- but it's not so bad. I'll be spending the weekend watching movies and playing games- it's almost like a vacation.
I just hope the swelling goes down before the 12th. I've got a couple days of leave, so I'm heading home for Mardi Gras.

The Army scale goes from one to three.
1) Wouldn't do it.
2) Would do it.
3) Would do it and brag about it.
I'd put her at "two."
That's a nice scale you got there, soldier.
Stay away from the automatic weapons on those drugs, son...
Were any impacted? I got my wisdom teeth out last year. They didn't give me enough novacaine/I processed the novocaine too fast and it wore off into my second tooth. I felt everything. By the time I got home I just screamed into my couch for about an hour until I could quit screaming long enough to take some Vicodin. Then I felt fantastic. I could have been hit by a car while on that shit and would have been like naw it's cool.
Morale of the story: Vicodin is magic.

Haha that's nice I like that :)
I had 4 teeth pulled so that my teeth could be realigned with braces.

"Alright, now it's going to bleed a bit" FUCK YOU.
Gotta love the anesthetic as well, I swore I had the soup in my mouth and my mouth closed but my stained shirt proved quite the contrary.
why are they called wisdom teeth if they are so hated and pulled out by dentists?
they should call them "stupid teeth"
EDIT:
oh god i'm so damn funny
You are quite the writer, i'll give you that.
why are they called wisdom teeth if they are so hated and pulled out by dentists?
The name is there purely for the sake of irony.
My wisdom teeth came in perfectly. :) I'm glad I don't have to deal with all the pain.
DO NOT do ANY kind of sucking action. DO NOT sip through straws, take "Strong" sips, etc.
But really, there is not much you can do. Everything the dentist told you is pretty much everything to know...there's no real secret tips or anything unfortunately. You just gotta bare with it all through the week and not do anything that can cause any damage.
I stopped taking my pain meds really quick just because I didn't like the trippy feeling they gave me XD. I know that I missed the opportunity to get high, and while it felt okay, at the same time I just didn't like it. So I had quite a lot to deal with.....though it all healed fine. the only pain in the ass is that literally for at least 6 months, you'll get food caught in the space where the teeth were, and it gets fucking annoying and irritating.
Gauze is always fun, my mouth stopped bleeding after about 3 days but it still hurt like a bitch for a good 2 weeks
The day before Thanksgiving too
If you hate the army so much, and don't want to get sent out to an "unpleasant desert hellhole", then why the hell did you join it?
I got lucky when I got my wisdom teeth pulled out, they knocked me the fuck out and all I remember was waking up in a ass load of pain and this nurse gave me like 3 pain pills.
Ride home was awesome, 'cept for the fact that I nodded off and woke up with a trail of drool/blood running down my shirt.
Oh man, I'm getting mine removed this Monday. Now I'm scared as fuck.
i had 8 teeth removed and that was seriously a bitch to deal with.
even more of a bitch to deal with is the partial I have now. along with my 8 were my top wisdoms... i had the surgery on December 22nd and to this day, the gums where my wisdoms were still hurt when touched.
keep strong.
