There really needs to be a general help thread.
Anyway I use a mix of Photoshop and Art Rage to make TF2 textures for my items. Today I realized I messed up big, even affecting my two workshop submissions. So for example, I'm going to use the item I'm working on with someone else.

The texture here is a WIP, but hopefully you'll get the general idea.
And here's how it looks when it's flattened.

All the detail gone, except for the bake. Brushstrokes completely gone.
Here's the file in question; https://www.mediafire.com/?2gbf1prnh5c8pd7
The texture itself needs to be white so it can be painted. I just used blue to show the detail.

Found a somewhat shitty way
On the brushstroke layer, I made it Difference instead of multiply. Then I merged the layers, then went to Image>Adjustments>Invert
Sounds like a lot of unnecessary steps. There's got to be a correct way to do it.
