I flinched a few times
Holy fuck, the calmness in his fucking voice when explaining, "You press this, boom."
Incredible.
At least it didn't have an anti tampering device, they'd all be dead if it had.

"Be careful with this, if you press that, blow up"
His hand is so fucking close to it
wow that guy has some enormous steel balls
Don't even attempt to use the captions

Seriously, war spawns the most twisted fucking minds, can you even imagine the discussion that led to a mine that has an anti tampering device in it?
"Yeah so our enemy is not dieing to landmines enough anymore, they're disarming them, what do we do? make it so that if they fuck with it, it BLOWS UP ANYWAYS even if people who disarm it years later have nothing to do with any of this!".
Jesus fuck

I'm pretty sure this is Aki Ra, a Cambodian man who was forced to plant mines as a child, and has since disarmed over 50,000 of them by himself with his bare hands.

it's a nail resting against a fuse, pressing it won't do anything you would have to strike it with force just like a bullet's blasting cap

still not something i'd be especially excited to play with
I panicked and clicked pause when he started to smash the damn thing while it was still intact :tinfoil:

Then he fucking taps it with the pieces that he took off :v:

Wrong, its a spring assisted trigger. When a small force is place, it releases the tension and the fuse is lit. Tapping it is safe enough, but if he pressed with any kind of effort or even put resting weight on it, it would go off.
Don't even attempt to use the captions
No need to, I understand everything. :D
Mines in jungles and other densely wooded areas or difficult terrain must be the worst to get rid of. At least in an open field you can just drive a mine flail to set them all off and be done with it.
This guy is way too hardcore. I mean, laughing it up while disarming landmines like they were wind-up toys? Come on.
I just read up on his story. This man deserves to go in the history books for his actions, honestly.
that's some responsible parenting right there
who the fuck lets their kid watch them disarm a mine?! :v:

Well, if he disarmed 50000 of them without taking harm, I imagine it gets rather casual.

Mine flails aren't 100% reliable and in some situations may be worse than disarming manually as depending on the soil type it may just end up dispersing damaged, unpredictable mines.
Note he was named nicknamed akira after the manufacturer for his consistency and efficiency. Its hard to believe this selfless guy was imprisoned for his work.
While we're on the subject on landmines, I looked up if there was any treaty to ban mines.
There is, and these are participating countries

I'm actually surprised that the US isnt part of it.

He level capped his landmine disarming skills, I'd laugh too, he must have increased resistance to explosions.

Because in a military scenario, mines are fucking good at deterring the enemy from advancing. You're not gonna attack a base cause its covered with shitload of mines.

When dealing with explosives of any kind you really have to be in your happy place :v:
At first glance I thought the title said Canadian man. :v:
