IFAP Shooting Competition (May 2013)
Talked about this competition some more with Taiwanese, but nothing is final yet. We're thinking about setting up 5 soda cans spaced 12" apart. You would stand 25-30ft back, weapon in hand and pointed down. Time starts using some sort of audio, could be a friend saying go, a phone alarm, anything that makes a sound that we can hear in the video. Shoot all 5 cans down, doesn't matter what order you shoot them in. Time stops at the impact of the last soda can. Use a video editor to find the start and stop times and record your time. When you're finished upload you video (times edited into the video are highly encouraged). Recommend doing the drill 3 times so we can see an average time.
I could make this more difficult by adding a half second penalty for every missed shot you make, but I'll leave that up for you guys to decide.
You may use any weapon you want so long as it can fire in semi. Burst is alright if your semi is broken or the gun only has full auto. Going full auto and strafing all the cans doesn't count. Shotguns are alright so long as they aren't taking down more than one can at a time.
There will be 5 categories to compete in. You can participate in all 4 categories.
1. Handguns
2. SMG's, Semi Auto Rifles and Shotguns
3. SAW's and other AEG's that only have full auto (Must be fired in bursts)
4. Pump Shotguns and Bolt Action Rifles
5. Special Weapons (RPGs, Grenade Launchers, Flamethrowers, whatever crazy shit you got that can hit a can)
Let me know what you think. I'd like to have a discussion on any changes you would like to see then we can finalize the rules and get this competition started.
Damn, still two weeks until school lets out and I can participate, how long do you think the deadline for entries will be?
None of our past contests really actually had deadlines, come to think of it. It's more of a friendly competition kind of thing going on.
I think I'll have it open for a month, that's about how long we had it open last time.
put pump shotguns and bolties into different categories
Can we get a bonus if we fire less shots than there are cans? I have about a 3 foot spread with my shotguns at this kind of range.
rabies is going to win category 2

So that would mean no. In this case you might have to increase the distance between the cans so you can only hit one at a time.
In which case you'll be at a major disadvantage to any semis in the category if it's pump, with the bonus that it might still be easier to hit one target with BB spread.

decrease*
That's true, if he's closer it's easier to aim, if he's further the BBs would presumably spread farther out. Lose-lose situation.
what can I use as a target besides soda cans
decrease*
No, I could decrease my distance to the cans, or increase the distance between each can.
Either way, I can always load shotguns up with 1-3 bb's per shell so its no big deal.

except pumps are with bolties

Pump shotguns are in a seperate category from semi shotguns and semi rifles.
oh, bad reading. i thought ender said you could increase the distance between you and the cans.
whoops

Sorry, I just saw shotguns in the semi category and assumed they were together, I knew about category 4 but missed the pump part anyway. hrgh

Thought the same myself.
what can I use as a target besides soda cans
I suppose you could use party cups or water bottles, something around the size of a soda can.
do flamethrowers get their own category?
Alright me and Ultimate filmed our portion with the Kriss Vector, and my M16, with some bloopers that will be included along with the handgun. Unfortunately Ultimate's last attempt with the Kriss failed, and it will count for now because we ran out of daylight..
what can I use as a target besides soda cans
Any beverage bottle that's about the same diameter as a soda can. Want to keep the size of the target more or less uniform for everyone.
do flamethrowers get their own category?
I guess they could. Putting a fifth category for special weapons.
Can you write the distances in the metric system as well, I'm not good with inches and feet
soda cans 30 cm apart, you stand 8 - 10 m away.

Did you practice before hand? You literally have like a 1-5 hit to miss ratio.
no
i ran out of the .2s that came with the gun, and my .25s i ordere are coming in tomorrow, so I was using .32s, which were a bitch to adjust in the hop and I have not even shot like 5 mags out of it while aiming at something specific.
i think im going to retry with the vertical grip on it.
I don't think a vertical grip is going to help, you just need to practice and use consistent hop/ammo settings.
I'm so excited seriously though once I get home next Friday I'm going to practice until I can get below 2-3 seconds gon b hot
[editline]1st May 2013[/editline]
oh and you should post all of your attempts and average for pistol and GBB as text so you don't have to watch the entire video to get your times
the bbs i use are quite picky in what guns they will work well in. They were quite janky in the TM. They jam in a lot of AEGs for some reason, but they work great in my gun and they soar perfectly out to 250+ feet

getting bioval .25s tomorrow
