A woman watching the Honduras-Israel soccer match at BBVA Compass Stadium June 1 says a security guard tried to confiscate her Palestinian flag because it was a "racial slur." Buthayna Hammad says she was waving the flag about fifteen minutes into the match when four stadium security officers and four police officers approached. They asked her to step away from her seat for a discussion. That's when, she says, security manager Nathan Buchanan told her the flag "infers a racial slur."

According to Hammad, Honduras fans were shouting “faggots” and “motherfuckers” at Israel fans, and a fight between an Israel fan and a Honduras fan was going on just a few rows behind her, at the very time that she was removed from her seat…yet she was the one singled out for “instigating violence.”
Summary: (Your rights end where my feelings begin) Palestinian-American woman comes to soccer match at BBVV stadium in Houston with her Honduran boyfriend to watch Honduras vs. Israel match. Woman gets removed from her seat for waving a regulation sized Palestinian flag at the match because head of security believes her flag implies a "racial slur".
Nathan Buchanan told her the flag "infers a racial slur."
dumbass
"You are inferring that Palestinians exist! We can't allow that."
the fuck happened in that stadium, did they put drugs on the drinks, holy meatballs
That's football for you. Like every other sport they got a lot of idiots who want to start fights over anything. A lot of nationalism in football too.
You truly are my greatest ally
the fuck happened in that stadium, did they put drugs on the drinks, holy meatballs
Football fans can be fucking idiots that's what happened.
Sports fans can be fucking idiots that's what happened.
fixed.
the fuck happened in that stadium, did they put drugs on the drinks, holy meatballs
lmfao if you think this is bad, look what happens in south American countries, Soccer is more of a religeon down there then it is a sport.
Obviously it doesn't make sense that waving a flag "infers a racial slur," but why did she bring a Palestinian flag to that game anyway?
Obviously it doesn't make sense that waving a flag "infers a racial slur," but why did she bring a Palestinian flag to that game anyway?
idk, I'm sure people bring their own country's flag even if they aren't playing occasionally.
Not surprised she got removed, obviously its not a racial slur waving a Palestine flag, but it sounds like she was trying to cause trouble [editline]7th June 2014[/editline] I mean why else would you bring a Palestine flag to an Israel game
I mean why else would you bring a Palestine flag to an Israel game
She's Palestinian.
why would you take another countries flag to a game in which they are not playing? why?
why would you take another countries flag to a game in which they are not playing? why?
People do that, don't they?
why would you take another countries flag to a game in which they are not playing? why?
It's normal to display your country flag, even among players playing on foreign countries and so it is among fans.
It's normal to display your country flag, even among players playing on foreign countries and so it is among fans.
Palestine isn't a country.
Palestine isn't a country.
Here we go
Palestine isn't a country.
And I answered a question that wasn't whether or not it was, but thanks for your post!
Palestine isn't a country.
Palestine is a recognized sovereign state
Palestine isn't a country.
Found the JIDF. But seriously. It seems to me that the flag was brought only to protest and stir shit, which has no place at a football game. Although given what else was going on, their actions seems pretty drastic and targeted.
The most impressive part of this story is that an American security guard in Texas knows what the Palestinian flag looks like.
Doesn't he mean to say imply?
Palestine isn't a country.
I thought Sobotnik was permabanned?
Doesn't he mean to say imply?
Yea, but its coming from some dumb guy who told some Palestinian woman to stop waving her flag around because its a "racial slur".

What I am trying to say is that this security guard, despite being branded as being the bad guy, was likely just trying to prevent trouble. I mean, his reasoning he gave was crap, but bringing a Palestine flag to an Israel flag is like bringing a Ukraine flag to an unrelated game involving Russia or a Tibet flag to an unrelated China game. A security guards job is to prevent trouble, not to facilitate political protests.

Doesn't matter where you display or how you display, they'll come.
Carrying an Israel flag isn't going to cause any trouble unless an Arabic team is playing, and I'd expect that security guards would probably try and get rid of that. I mean, I'm speaking from somebody who watches their local team every fortnight - Any banner that could cause any kind of trouble will be removed. I obviously don't know what its like in the US though.
holyshit: they watch soccer in texas? also its texas, not necessarily a tolerant place but cmon its just a flag, its not as if the confederate flag that is flown there represents racial slurs...
