Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson, asked during a televised town hall meeting to name a foreign leader he admires, struggled to come up with a single one, saying that he was having an “Aleppo moment”.
Are you fucking serious?
I dislike Chris so fucking much. Just rubs me the wrong way.
Johnson himself making the Aleppo comparison was such an own goal, I'm surprised to see an experienced politician mishandle the moment so badly
Wonder how Scorpius feels about this

He does seem like a nob
Easy to understand but not easy to accept if youre running for top office

Honestly, he is the best candidate next to bernie the US could have.
Why should he admire a foreign leader? I mean, he could have said "No I dont admire anyone"
I don't particularly admire any leader, foreign or domestic. They're just people.
But the Aleppo thing along with not really knowing any foreign leaders is a bit troubling for a man who wants the top job.
You need to be on your ball when it comes to geography. You need to know important towns and foreign politicians to get trade deals through the door or to respond to conflict. You can't slack at this ever
Reading the headline made me kind of laugh at him. But man, I realized that I too can't really even name a foreign leader I admire.
To be fair the question was purposely loaded and asked in a way expecting this result. Not only must he name a foreign leader (which he can I assume), but he has to pick out one he admires which is a very risky response.

The only one's I can think of Cincinattus and Julius Caesar but they've been dead for a really long time
Can you name dead ones? I'd probably say Mandela then.

The Libertarian Party platform is awful, I don't understand how so many people can support it because "Not Trump, not Hillary."

We have a major party candidate openly lavishing Vladimir Putin with praise and no one even seriously cares about it.
Like as long as Johnson managed to name a world leader who wasn't a tyrannical dictator he would've been fine.

Because they're socially liberal and they're not the democrats so they can feel superior to everyone because they're 'above' the two party system.

Just choose a politically neutral one in us politics. Park Geun hye or former prime minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra

3rd party candidates like Johnson and Bernie don't give a fuck about foreign policy

Its risky to name someone, at any time in history, that you respect?
i can think of like 6 off the top of my fucking head
i mean fuck hes a libertartian, how did he not say margaret thatcher?

I think you're seriously misinterpreting why people choose to not vote Democrat/Republican.
I gave Johnson the benefit of the doubt re: Aleppo but this is just fucking embarrassing

Lovely shaming there,
To be fair, I have a much easier time naming foreign leaders I despise than foreign leaders I admire. Put on the spot, I might have stumbled too.
Then again, I'm not running for president.

Indifferent, really.
Does Johnson having a political leader he admires or not crucial to his campaign or ability to become president?
If you think yes, then you're as dumb as a Trump supporter.
Seems more like a question made to make Johnson push away certain leaders and cause a little tension if he were to meet them as president.
I would've just said I admire no one because they're just people.
While it's technically true that you don't really need a good geographical sense to have a good set of economic and social policies, it's still mildly depressing that he couldn't name a single leader. Then again, I also can't say that any current national leader is exceptionally admirable, and if the question was in the context of alive and currently serving leaders, I would probably struggle to name one as well.
No current foreign leader is really 'libertarian'. None really match up with his party's ideals (i'm not saying *his* because I still refuse to think of Johnson as a libertarian). In the context of all leaders in history, yeah-- this is absolutely hilarious and makes him a bigger goofball than both Trump and Clinton combined. In the context of current foreign leaders, I don't really blame him for not being able to give a good answer off the top of his head. Hell, I probably couldn't either.

oh come on. if either hillary or trump had done something similar you'd be creating a thread about it before anyone knew it had been said. it's fuckin embarrassing, these are things a presidential candidate need to know. even if he doesn't admire any foreign leader it doesn't matter there needs to be an answer

Other than Thatcher who is long dead there really isn't anyone he could say he admires. If he said Merkel or some other European leader he'd rile up his own party.
Intentional to make him look bad again.

Trump is to be expected if he didn't know any foreign leaders. He's a mook.
Hillary was the god damn Secretary of State and First Lady, I'd actually be shocked if she couldn't name one.
1. king abdullah ii of jordan
2. tunisian president beji caid essebsi
3. pope francis
4. francois hollande & manuel valls
5. king jigme khesar namgyel wangchuck of bhutan
can i be president???
but yeah it it can be hard to name one, very few world leaders deserve to be admired.

Every person who ever lived was just a person.
