Do you think the U.S uses cheap tactics to recruit to the military?

The united states puts out these awesome looking commercials, but almost makes these branches of military look fun rather than life threatening.
They kind of almost show a fake image of what it would be like to be in the army. They show hard work, but not the pain in the ass it is really going to be.
For example, 4 videos of each branch.

Oh just for lols, japaneese recruitment ad:

But like the marines one, it just shows all of the exciting exhilarating stuff. It's almost like a scam.
I hate how they tried to recruit me in the marines at school, you let them know anything and next thing you know they're at your house giving you tests
Well depends on who is telling you the stuff.
Quite bit they do.
Other times they don't
I think adverts that showed people how hard and dangerous life in the army actually is, I dont think people will be that crazy about signing up.
Does any military use cheap tactics to recruit? The answer is yes, it isn't just the US.

These are not really cheap tricks. It's just that they advertise the stuff that looks nice as does ANYTHING that wants to recruit or have people buy something. Nobody would go to war (except psychos) if they showed people's heads getting blown open and being shot at by RPGs.
Depends on how stupid you are.
They show that you should be proud to serve your country. Sure they flash some shit that you'll never get to even see, but most people join because they want to. Not because some commercial showed them.
They're trying to recruit people, they obviously won't show soldiers getting shot and pinned down by enemy forces. At least they're not lying in one part, those people probably do feel honoured serving their country - for whichever reasons. Though they're misleading, people should really be researching something themselves if they're going to dedicate their life towards it so I don't really blame them for not showing the gruesome side of combat.

:frog:
I'm fighting for the U.S, and I'm not stupid. The only thing that's personally even got me thinking about it is veterans day.

I fully agree. I have been interested in joining and I'm not sure any of it came from some commercials.
By european standards we're pretty decent as we dont CONSCRIPT people.
Japan uses some pretty cheap tactics though
Army recruiters where I used to live were like Jehovah Witnesses. They'd come by and ask if there's anyone over the age of 18 and give the same dribble drabble about how the Army is a perfect career choice for someone wanting to go to College with GI Bill and such and they'd shove a bunch of papers in your face and you'd tell them no and they'd say "HAVE A NICE DAY" and leave in their black Cadillacs to the next house till they came back the next day and did the same thing.
OP, if you were a government that had an all-volunteer military, wouldn't you do everything in your power to get people to volunteer?
I don't know about you, but when I see those commercials, I don't think "oh hey that looks fun." And if you've ever been to the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, the entire section dealing with modern training is designed to scare you, just like real training is designed to get you to toughen up under pressure. Some individual recruiters might go for the fun angle, like this one guy who came into my high school band class to advertise the Marine Corps Band, but from what I've seen, it's pretty rare outside of those Air Force "it's what we do every day" commercials, which not only go for the fun videogame-type angle, but are completely ineffective because of that.
Well, I think there is something, but it's not in the commercials. I mean, if there's one thing most of the Americans I see on the internet appear to be proud of, it's their military power. Sometimes, it's nothing more than that.
You see, here in Brazil, most people don't like going to the army or anything. And they don't even send us anywhere we can actually fight, or die.

Probably because our military is huge. In a full scale war (Not this Taliban/Insurgent bullshit) the US would hold up well. That's something to be proud of. And because our country was made from violence so that too.
No. If someone is serious about the military, I'm sure they all know boot is more than 'fun & games' just by common sense or little research. As others have said, its just to inspire patriotism and whatnot.

The american guy sounds like the saints leader from Saints Row
Christ that Japanese advert, the imperial navy is spinning in its grave.
I want to join the seaman ship.
They are just like every other advertisement. They promise if you do/get XYZ, your life will be a billion times better.
The Miltary desperate using any tactics to get you in
Happens in my area to these unlucky ones.
You'd have to be pretty damn stupid to sign up for the military after seeing a commercial without atleast asking questions
