Netflix said Thursday it now has more than 30 million subscribers worldwide, including some five million outside the United States as the Internet video service pursues a global expansion.
“Thirty million of you are now Netflix streaming members. I’d like to express my gratitude to each of you,” chief executive Reed Hastings said on his Facebook page.
“Your choice to be a Netflix member helps us get more content every year, and helps us further improve our member experience. You make it possible for us to offer the most amazing Internet television experience ever.”
Netflix hit the 10 million member milestone in 2009, a decade after it launched its DVD-by-mail service in the United States.
The number jumped to 20 million members by the end of 2010 with the adoption of the Netflix streaming video service in the US and Canada.
Netflix is currently available in 51 countries, with Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland the most recent additions.
Earlier this week, Netflix reported a fall in profit to $7.7 million in the past quarter on revenues of $905 million.
$907 million per quarter and the movie selection is still lacking. Hollywood must be thoroughly raping their wallets.
there's too much that should be on netflix that isn't on there
For nearly four billion in yearly revenue, you think they'd strike a deal with Hollywood to update content more frequently.
With all the documentaries, I am occupied; a newly released "Hollywood" movie on Netflix feels quite similar to the nostalgia of going to Blockbuster, more or less.

Revenue isn't profit
If you want them to put more titles on, they have to license more. To license them, they have to be paid for. Where does that money come from?
You.
I just watched a documentary called "Mansome" today. It was pretty awesome.
i'm a proud netflix subscriber
I had Hulu Plus before and after realizing I was paying more for the same amount of content, with ads, and can't even watch it on my tablet because of some DRM bullshittery I switched to netflix
have been happy since. watched breaking bad, parks and rec, psych, a couple movies like kick ass (I read the comic before, worry not)
they don't update their content too late because as soon as the 4th season of parks and rec was available as a DVD it was on netflix too, but there's still some annoying bullshit that netflix has shows and movies hulu does not and vice versa
Netflix makes little sense at times. Like how they show It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia outside of the US on Instant Watch, yet only have it for DVD in America (where it's freaking filmed for gods sake).
They also never readded party mode to the 360, which in my opinion was a pretty cool feature that let you watch movies with friends (Mystery Science Theater 3000 style).

Why is Australia not one of them?
It still bothers me that some TV episodes are left out, thus making me either have to go on the internet to find out about what the hell happened.
what... like singular episodes? for what series?

And a lot of shows that are running current seasons can be watched on Hulu, since they show the most recent 4 or some odd episodes of a lot of popular shows. Really doesn't make sense to have it when you can just use it for free along with Netflix.
there's too much that should be on netflix that isn't on there
I wish they had more to stream, they have a large selection but most of it is all blue ray or dvds.

hulu plus certainly isn't worth it IMO
it's like I'm not gonna pay extra to watch shows on just my phone and not my tablet. hulu was one of the reasons I bought my tablet. they were even like "ok here's motorola xoom app" and even on a stock ROM it says some shit about DRM engines and just won't work.
and ain't no way in hell I like paying that extra money and still have to watch ads. I had hulu plus long enough between when each adspace was like 30 seconds and now it's like 2-3 minutes in which case I might as well just watch real TV!
I sub to Netflix but like everyone else is saying, there's far too many great movies missing. If it had like 80% of the movies on IMDB's top 250 I'd be eternally happy.
They need more criterion stuff on Netflix
Netflix + Steam UNITE! That would be a cool idea watch netflix with people on your friends list. Would make it a lot cooler than the xbox crap.
I'm sure I'd have a netflix subscription if my TV was larger than 14 inches across and had some way to hook up a media center or somehow get netflix on it.

honestly, i would get netflix if they had the full criterion collection.
While Netflix may be lacking for people in the US, it is a fucking godsend to us here in the cold lands of the North. TV is so far behind and they show a lot of shows in retarded orders. Besides, I get it for free for the rest of the year due to me having Spotify Premium.
There are a lot of shows that aren't on netflix that should be on there
[sub]bill nye the science guy is one of them[/sub]
Why is Australia not one of them?
I'm using 'Unblock Us' to use Netflix in Australia, it works a treat.
I tried the netflix trial and it seemed to be full of programs that are already on TV and incredibly old films. Maybe it's because we already have Sky TV or something, but I wasn't impressed in the slightest.
Netflix Ireland is shit, It doesn't have an 8th of the collection the US version does.
Netflix just launched in Sweden and gave everyone who has a paid Spotify acc the service free until the end of the year, It would be interesting to see how many keep it after the free period ends, because the selection isn't especially bad. I saw an article that concluded that something like 10 % of all movies available in the country were available on Netflix. I appreciate that you got stuff like Firefly, Lock Stock and Two Smoking barrels, But really. Give us more then one or two seasons of this and older movies and documentaries

What? I have spotify premium does this mean I can get Netflix for free?

Use the Unblock-Us VPN and you also get everything the US people get. It's awesome. Sure it doesn't have all the latest movies. But it still have a decent collection of nice movies, shows and especially documentaries.
Got Netflix from Spotify and I probably wont renew. If you think US is slow to release/got little stuff then pick any random country and it's infinitely worse.
